Sorry, Steve Jobs (Apple) went for Foster; Trump went for (relative) junk. Then again, he 1) isn't as rich as the former and 2) isn't really putting his own dough in.

You don't have to be a socialist to know what good taste or excellence is - sic Steve Jobs vs. D. Trump. In fact, I think you're doing conservatives or capitalism a disservice by using the two of the lowest denominator and holding them up as examples for all.

Any opinion of what is good taste is purely subjective. In fact I would say there is no such thing as good or bad taste, just taste.

Also tastes vary with age, nationality, and other demographics. Your "vulgar" may be my "stimulating", and vice-versa. Popular opinion means nothing either, as that viewpoint changes with time.

I think Donald Trump makes an easy target for a lot of people. I don't even like the guy much myself, but I still personally believe Toronto is better off with this building here. Like it or not, the word "Trump" on the skyline will get attention.

For the record, Im a socialist (or a leftie pinko as some of you would say) and I hate Jobs and Trump equally. And i agree with wmedia that taste is subjective. The Trump Tower may not be an architectural showstopper, but considering what we ended up with, nobody should really be complaining. Whether or not you like the "look" of the building personally, it adds a lot to the CBD. I'm not specifically talking about the skyline either. One of the repeated comments is that it "doesnt fit in with it's neighbours". I don't see this being possible. Massing cant possibly be the reason for this claim...can colour? The cbd is basically a jumble of different colour towers. FCP is white, Scotia is a dark red, TD towers are black, BAC is transparent blue....how does Trump's green glass not fit in with its already random surroundings? In fact, the Trump Tower carefully changes its facade from stone to glass at precise floors to reflect buildings to the west and south. The height of the building itself is also comparable to its neighbours. Whether one likes the building or not is completely subjective. How the building "doesnt fit" is still a mystery to me

Actually, I don't think this tower is an unmitigated disaster, or that somehow it doesn't fit with its' surroundings - I do however think that the end product is not executed well; that the green glass clashed with the stone clad portion of the building; that the granite cladding looks dead, as does the fenestration in the said portion. It looks awkward and ponderous.

I respect ur opinion AoD but at the end of the day all those things you mentioned (as well as many of the things i mentioned) are subjective and cant be ruled an absolute fact. This is really one of those "time will tell" scenarios that we are better off not debating

Yes, regardless of what you think of the building most would agree it is lacking in finesse.
