Toronto Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

Winter starts in December, so calling it "winter" will give them a three months window.

We are all such keeners. The subway system is an important backbone to the city and region. Nothing has happened on this front for so long. We are all dying to taste real progress. Couldn't happen a day too soon. The discussion has that expectant air. This is actually exciting.

...which will tower over the bungalow mouse houses.

How many decades before the developers will bulldoze those bungalows to build high density condos, or at the very least, sixplexes or triplexes?
All of one of these new stations is anywhere near bungalows to tower over, and that's Finch West, which is one of the more reserved ones. The rest are surrounded by insitutional, commercial, or employment lands.

And Vaughan has way more garish McMansions than bungalows!
In all seriousness, there is hardly any low-density housing anywhere near any of these stations. I think most people here know what they are talking about when they make criticisms, but sometimes I wonder....

I dunno, I think the rust colour kinda fits with the mental image of old, rusted farm tools.

The whole thing throws me off, because Pioneer Village (the place, not the stop) is near a huge archaeological site, giving us insight into the indigenous peoples that once lived on the land. And then we go building these sub-ground structures and name one of the access points of it after this site, and use these modern settler industrial materials to decorate it.

I'm not speaking for the local first nations peoples that once lived here, but on the surface, it all feels a bit fucked up.

Pioneer Village has nothing to do with archaeology or indigenous peoples - or at least it didn't the last time I went. It is a Heritage museum to honour the 19th century settlers.

Can I quote myself, from 2 posts above:
"I think most people here know what they are talking about when they make criticisms, but sometimes I wonder...."

I mean, there were First nations communities all over what is today the GTA but "huge archeological site" near this subway station? Where?

Sorry, it was further away than I thought. Black Creek and the hydro corridor; the Parsons site.

Oh, yeah. There's also some other TRCA-owned lands on the north side of Steeles that aren't part of the village (there's and old barn and they shoot a lot of movies there) but that stuff is all well protected. The Pioneer Village station is 1/2 way to the Northwest Gate at York.

I took some photos along the extension today, including the emergency exits.

The Whitehorse Road emergency exit looks complete (at least from the outside):

The Pond Road emergency exit is nowhere near finished; it's not even above ground. However, there was a crew present when I passed by:
