I certainly don't think the village is dying, but the removal of pride flags I think is a big problem. I know it's just symbolic, but how can you have a gay village without rainbow flags?? Why have more people not expressed concern about their removal? I feel like this should be a bigger issue than it has been so far.

The "gay" village is not as necessary. It's a touristy thing for people, so they know where they are when they visit, or for people who don't live in the village, so when they visit on the weekends, they can feel all special. "Oooh I'm in the village!" We don't need rainbow flags to tell us who or where we are.

Xtra and others have been bemoaning the end of the "gay" Village (admittedly, I never really liked that reference) since the Alexus condos started going up in 1999 and every once in a while when there's some space to fill it comes up again.

To you maybe. I still like to go to the "gay" village. And I like to see rainbow flags. First they remove the rainbow flags. What's next? Cancel Pride because it's not "necessary"?

pride is a major event in toronto, at cancelling it would be like cancelling the santa claus parade. the pride parade is ingrained in this cities culture, and won't be going anywhere.

What does this refer to? Have the gay flags that the BIA placed along Church street been removed by the BIA or are there just less businesses flying the flag?

If the BIA is taking down flags this would of course be wrong and I would question why they are doing this? What group are they trying not to "offend".

I see many rainbow flags proudly displayed on the balconies at the City Park Co-op buildings. They still seem to be quite popular with the older folks.

This is getting OT, aside from an LGBTer presently becoming Premier within the subject of this thread. (Speaking of which: there seems something very sentimentally anticlimactic about MLG in its present state serving the provincial Grit leadership race--like, this is one instance where the mammoth, cavernous old space would have been more fitting. Then again, it's a provincial race, not a federal one...)

Proposal for interior alterations to existing Loblaws for a new Nutella Cafe.

http://app.toronto.ca/ApplicationStatus/details.do?folderRsn=3939547

Another one? I think one is probably one too many!

Don't get me wrong, I don't actually dislike Nutella; but this sudden Nutella in, on, around, over, under, beside everything is just a bit much.

I like my cafes/bakeries not to be 100% the same flavour in/on everything they sell.

Well, ok, in fairness, it probably has juice or pop that's not Nutella flavoured......(for now)
