good to know. i thought i read somewhere years ago about the flaw of them and what it looks like on TV and there was some upper executive somewhere (not sure if it was a league exec or a team exec) that had it out for them.

Except the problem right now is that there are wayyyy too many suites on the 300 and 400 levels. Adding more luxury suites in the 100s would just make things worse.

I know they renovated the 300 and 400 level suites recently and reduced their overall numbers by consolidating them. Sections could even be converted to fan spaces if they wanted to reduce numbers even further. I'm sure that's being considered.
 
It wouldn't take much to really give the dome a modern update. Some ideas;
  • Change concrete fascia around all levels to glass similar to the ticketmaster section on 300. Making those tinted glass or glazed will really make the place feel a bit less heavy.
  • Like others have posted, use new LED lighting in the roof structure to celebrate the engineering of it all. Imagine using lights to celebrate home runs and wins. How awesome would it look in the skyline with it changing colors during the game.
  • Upgrade lighting in all areas. Use new LED lighting to focus more light on field and use accent lighting in the stands similar to modern hockey arenas. Imagine the seating areas being lit with different colours. Add better lights for aisles. See example from coca cola arena
  • They've done some nice updates on the 100 with glass bar tops to watch the games. Add more of those spaces with standup areas and open bars.
  • Add more restaurants and bars along bremner that also open into the stadium for pregame and post game entertainment.
  • Make 500 outfield areas larger terraces with bars, fire pits, and more family activities.
  • Upgrade hotel fascia to all glass glazing to bring it up to 2020 glazing standards.
  • Instead of trying to go retro, Imagine how cool it would be to go super modern. For the outside, just clean it or paint the exterior white. Improve the glazing and add more windows where possible. Add new exterior lighting.

No offence but going modern is what got them in this mess in the first place. People love the classic ball park feel. They've got to try and make it feel that way as much as they can.

Not exactly. Skydome was built how it was built for a reason, people loved modern at the time. It opened with great fanfare and success, it just happened to be at the end of an era. Camden Yards opened up and things flipped to the retro look.

If you look at some of the new ballparks being built in the US, they are less and less retro than they have been. I don't have an issue with retro, but Skydome is never going to be a retro stadium, ever. Any retro elements they try to pull off are going to look tacked on and lame. It can be a beautiful modern looking stadium though. It has the bones for it. I say embrace it. Make it a more intimate yes. But make it awesomely modern at the same time.

I wonder if there is a good way to improve the interior facing side of the roof - maybe with membrane fabric? It shouldn't impose too much of a load on the dome, and relatively easy to install.
