Toronto PATH Retail

Walked home through the PATH today, some renovation updates I noticed:

MetroCentre is, I'd guess, somewhere around 2/3rds done it's renovation, looks like they're working on the food court and south end of the concourse now (they usually do work in the morning/early afternoon on MetroCentre so the construction workers were gone by the time I was there), north end is mostly finished beyond adding plants to the planters and having you know, any stores other than Rexall. We do however have the first new tenant announced, Health One opening in the northern part of the centre block of stores in Fall 2026. Not the most exciting option IMO but fits if the plan is to move MetroCentre towards serving local needs in addition to office workers. Would have preferred the Farm Boy or LCBO from the 2019 signage renders though.

Sheraton Centre revamp is getting closer to being finished. Still a lot of unfinished walls, but there's new seating in both the shopping area and the food court (both largely fenced off so far though). Floors and ceilings are done, walls seem to be done for the easier parts, it's mostly the areas where there are angled corners, fire equipment boxes or electrical outlets that are unfinished. As an aside, I wish they'd paint the beige entrance in the middle to the one hotel ballroom, it looks very out of place with the new look.

HBC looks the same as the last time I was there. One escalator left to fix. Blue fencing still everywhere.

Farm Boy would be pretty nice to have in that area. I went to the Metro Centre food court when I was in-office, and the selection is great, but I think a store like that would round off the place nicely. They serve some okay lunch fare, lots of money to be made during lunch (ask the Nature's Emporium at One York, at least I think that's a popular choice as I saw lots of bank workers buying lunch there). Hopefully, that's still in the cards, but I have a gut feeling it's not really a consideration anymore. However Health One is at the Waterfront too, so they might be trying to emulate that same selection they have. Hopefully!

Yeah totally agree. It's a decent food court but some sort of grocery store with premade options + being able to buy things you can home before you get on the subway really would complete the complex in terms of food. Even if it isn't Farm Boy I hope they include some sort of grocery store.

Health One is also at The Well, which isn't all that far away from Metro Hall. I guess The Well location is doing enough business to justify another location in the area.

If they're going with a grocery store I can definitely see a more low-profile one like a Loblaws CityMarket like the one in Yorkville or a smaller Metro, but I do hope it's Farm Boy. Longo's is already at First Canadian so I doubt Empire would put another one there. They probably know they can print money at this location though...

As for Health One I assume that's also a handy amenity to have if you work in the office. You wouldn't have to go far and you can make appointments right after work, or even during your lunch if needed. It's choices like these I can appreciate.

Now what I would really want at MetroCentre is a Dollarama, but not everything can be One York/WaterPark Place...

Former HBay PATH connection where most of the temporary metal fencing is now gone with some remaining that blocks off the escalators. Some of the escalators to the upper level were on and being serviced.
