Thanks for the updates on the art skycandy. I used to say that Toronto had no outdoor art many many years ago compared with Chicago, we are now doing pretty well, finally.

Yes Benito, I believe you're right. It seems not that long ago interest about our public spaces was more incidental. The maturing city adds value and interest to it's public spaces, and I hope this sentiment spills over into all the established parts of Toronto. I don't know if the phrase is used anymore, but ' found art ' springs to mind.

Public realm is top notch. Love the art.
Architecture is crap though. Guess you can't have everything at once.

It's a P3 on a tight deadline - the good old two of out of three fast/good/cheap. I am not super offended by the architecture, just forgettable. The most "offensive" piece, if I have to choose, is the part of the project abutting Corktown Commons. It wasted that frontage.

My wife texted me this low-res image of the water works finally working at night. Hope to check it out in-person soon.

My own phone camera not much better. I'm not sure if the lights in the area will always be this bright or it's just because of construction.

Another curious 'art feature' on Mill St (I believe there are two of these). It doubles as a park bench (I think). And the blue glass glows brightly at night.

Completely agree guys...some people might like safe Norman Rockwell-esque cute public pieces (and I suppose they have their place) that may appear to please the masses, but it can be the more interesting works such as the new art here that create a little controversy and do what art is supposed to do: get gums flapping. Plus this new art is really cool to the touch!

Mind you, I'm sure the new coloured water lights are sure to be a crowd pleaser for most people, and hot doggies on a warm summer evening as well.

I'm so happy those are operating. I tried to trigger them the last time I was down and they weren't operating yet, felt like a kid with a temper-tantrum smashing the button in disappointment.

There actually only one half of a bigger piece. The other section is actually in ireland and has people leaving for a better life or fleeing, being deported because of crimes.
I just saw the companion piece in Dublin this weekend. Had no idea it existed -- I was walking by the river and thought "wow, these figures sure look familiar" and looked up the sculptor. It's very good, and very dark.
