UD's shot of the cladding above got me curious.

Looking down Wolseley Street yesterday:

If you look closely above, up by the top of the panels, you can just make out that it's still got a plastic wrap on it which is obscuring the finish a bit. Meanwhile, there are clips waiting for something, either/both windows frames or top panels.

Umm, that can't be the exterior finish. It looks like sheet metal back pans. It even has grooves which suggests it super thin.

I certainly hope it's an inside layer, but it has been applied over insulation. The clips, though, do make me think that it is an inside layer.

The cladding was supposed to be zinc which has a softer grey finish.
I'm assuming this milled aluminum channels are not the finished cladding, but having that protective plastic layer may suggest otherwise. I see it being the backing layer for a rainscreen system, judging from how the channels are laid out.
The milled aluminum finish would be a rather harsh and crude material to use as a finish material.

Confounding cladding aside, I love some of the attention to detail: notches in balconies, angular windows that match the pitch of the main structure's angles, etc.

Certainly is a fine mess of cables.

I wish that the balcony frit had been extended to the fifth floor.

Otherwise, this is a very nice (and unique) addition to Toronto's streetscape.

The cladding (especially the detailing at the windows) is terrible. The standing-seam cladding has not been accurately cut to fit and the seams do not even line up at the "fold". I hope this will be resolved or the cladding will be swapped out.

Hmmm. The cladding is not what I was hoping it would be. But the design and physical form is really interesting. I hope it gets fixed up a bit. But in general I appreciate this.

Not at all happy with the cladding. Looks like it's wrapped in tin foil.
