Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

This afternoon, just south of the (current site of the recently closed) Ontario Science Centre: it does look like they are doing some sort of shoring in this spot at the end of the temporary road, adjacent the hydro field. I assume it's for a bridge footing.

A piling rig is on site while site prep continues for the emergency exit at Ordinance Park in Liberty Village.

Obviously Fort York isn't in the current plans for stations (additional stations being one of the most expensive parts of any subway project), but hypothetically, could this emergency exit site be built off of for an infill station in the future? It seems to be pretty much equidistant between Exhibition and King/Bathurst so it might make a decent candidate, considering direct access to Fort York/Garrison Commons, The Bentway, and STACKT Market grounds for events, and as an Eastern access point for Liberty Village.

How did we plan for and execute infill stations in the past?
 
The only infill station to be built is North York Centre, which IIRC involved digging down around the tunnel and building the station with a slow zone through it.

I would say that the location of this EEB is rather isolated for a new station, a lot of potential generators are blocked by the rail corridor and are in range of both Exhibition and King-Bathurst Station.

But it also required a location to have been planned during the construction of the line - and to the best of my knowledge, there are only 2 other locations in the system that have had this planned for.

It doesn't appear that a future station could be built at or east of Strachan considering the alignment of the line shown in the EA drawings.

If anything, the location more suited to an OL infill stop would be Cherry Street/Distillery Loop, given the density in the Canary District and the Villers Island/Port Lands redevelopment (+ Cherry Beach, etc.)... however, in addition to resulting in tighter than optimal stop spacing on both sides, there's no provision for future infill and the design/alignment of the tunnel and portal render it all but impossible.

Wouldn't expect to see any infill stations anywhere in the existing system or on any line under construction.

One, if I recall, was Yonge between Eglinton and Lawrence? I'm not sure if I recall the other, did they leave room for Willowdale on Line 4?

That's correct, there are no infill stations that are planned or that can be built in the scope of the Ontario Line. There were no provisions put in place for this anywhere (that includes around Strachan or the Distillery area).

It's also not possible to build infill stations on the Scarborough extension, nor is it possible with the Yonge North extension since the province decided to play their games in that particular case. I know, pretty forward thinking huh?

How can it not be possible on the Yonge North extension at this point? The tunnel contract hasn't been signed yet has it? Until the TBM passes where a station might be, or is on a trajectory with too high a slope where a station might be, it seems to me putting in a wall for the TBM to pass through is still possible with costs of infill construction remaining reasonable.

To that end, if the city really wanted a station they probably have time to move a few sewers and put piles down now... they don't need to fund a station right away, just a wall.

The province set a deadline (cant remember the exact date off the top of my head but it was earlier this year) for a provision to be put in place for Cummer station, which would have required the city to pony up money that they dont have to build/protect for the station. Since the deadline has passed, the province is moving forward without putting the future provision for the station to be added in the future. Cummer station is the only one that would've had the provision put in place.

Theoretically if the city came up with the money today, Cummer could go ahead and the province would i'm sure budge (ie: just see the fiasco with the tens of millions extra the province will spend with deep tunneling around Royal Orchard because of ~50 homeowners). But since there's no money to be found anywhere and since the province is being idiotic about the whole thing, it wont be built.

Those are the other two that I am aware of, yes. It strikes me that under Birchmount on the BD would have also been a logical place to leave a potential station location, but the line profile doesn't indicate that.
