from this afternoon. They have put scaffolding around a couple of the houses to be fixed up.

The covered hoarding is now up along the southern edge of the site

20180316_162054.jpg

I think the back of these buildings will be removed

20180316_162045.jpg

The facade of this building at Markham and Bloor will be retained. The machines have eaten a bit more of the back since last photos
20180316_161826.jpg

I believe that this white building will be moved 50meters south to join the other heritage structures---

From this afternoon --

they seem to be flattening the area along Bloor, and I've noticed dump trucks dropping off material (rather than removing). The exterior wall on the end house on Markham (east side) has been removed, revealing ugly yellow insulation. I've also noticed that a bunch of windows have been broken -- is this vandals or on purpose to air out the buildings? The space formally occupied by Ka Chi has no windows in front, and graffiti "artists" have done their thing. The temp fence isn't keeping anyone out. Also, the pigeon I photographed before, living in the hoarding, has given birth to chicks, and you can see the down in one of the photos.

yesterday afternoon. Since this, they've tore down most of the house on the end (east side of Markham St).

Silly? I thought everybody loved disruptors these days!
Holdouts are what makes city building fascinating (and cute little ‘FUs’ to fat 'n lazy blockbuster developers). Also, let’s face it: at best this project will net out somewhere between the suburban monotony of Liberty Village and the horrors of a mid-career St James Town.;)

You had me at holdouts, and lost me at Liberty Village. This project has the best potential of all the megadevelopments to avoid the fate of Liberty Village- they are purposefully including smaller retail spaces that front two major roads near a subway station. It's not an isolated pocket of condos, furniture stores, and a strip mall.

If anything, it's an improvement on what was there before. Honest Ed's had lost its utility (the prices weren't even cheap anymore, wasn't that the whole point?!), and the only contribution that block was making to the neighbourhood was the Wine Rack and restaurants that were tucked under it. There will be more of those types of establishments in the new Mirvish Village.
