Great photos, but man it's really something how monotonous is Toronto's architecture, looks like a large server farm.

Thats Toronto. The buildings are built for purely economic reasons and thus the most efficient way is to build a rectangular box design.

Toronto lacks flashy architects, city's approval committee nibble away at any bold designs and most of these buildings are built by consortium rather than individual billionaires who can add their own flair to the project.

And thus Toronto's skyline will resemble Sao Paulo in the near future.

Every city is unique, and monotonous buildings is what unique about Toronto.

we come here to express/discuss our opinions about the architecture in the city. isn't it one of the purposes of UrbanToronto.

+ I also agree with you somewhat, people compare Toronto with NYC a lot(ive done it too in the past). we need to understand that Toronto is building way more than bigger economies like Chicago and NYC. NYC has a GDP of almost $1.7 Trillion and Toronto is $400+ billion. we are lucky to see such boom in Toronto. Peace

above two photos are of the heritage building that they are putting back together. They recently put the original mosaic floor back and it's currently being protected by a few layers of boards.

the wall you see surrounding the roof is temporary as they needed to install something so the workers could safely work on the boilers

the blocks of concrete were added recently to mimic the weight of a car as CSA were doing inspections last week on the system

Those are some gorgeous views, the best I've seen in the city. One really gets to see an uninterrupted perspective down Queen Street (all the way west) and Yonge Street. Thanks for the pics!

That maybe your opinion. But calling out bland architecture design and striving for something bold and original is not whining. There is not a single building built since the boom started in 2005 that just by looking at any average joe from around the world can say thats Toronto. Just like you can look at Willis Tower and say it's Chicago, TransAmerican Pyramid Tower and say it's San Francisco, the Shard and say it's London, or One World Trade Center and say it's New York.

I'm very much in the minority on this but I quite like the north facade, especially as a contrast to the east, south and west balcony wrapping. The slight undulation and dark monolithic look contrasts nicely on the skyline.
