Toronto Lower Don Lands Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

As the islands are already "too low' it would make little sense to excavate more of them! If Lake water levels are going to keep on rising there are three possibilities for the islands:

Increase water flow FROM Lake Ontario by opening the dam near Cornwall and/or creating additional exits downstream so that the water is lower (and thus create more flooding further downstream).
Raise the level of the islands with rocks and berms etc
Accept that the water is rising and do not allow people to live there. They can remain a park but one which may flood from time to time.

They could build new roads on new landfill to surround the homes, high enough for the new roads to act as dikes.

A few more from Sunday.

Soon this pump will be struggling to keep up.

I am a bit confused: Where is the new path of the river in the photos above. Is it the (what looks like) gravel 'pathways? Is it the strip of water to the left? Also, where will it actually empty into the Lake? (South of, or through?, T & T?)

The new riverbed will be in between the two pathways (where the rigs are), leading to the slip which would be the new mouth. The rigs are there for the secant walls along the new river channel.

Question to the group - I wonder if the initial plans now take into account the recent floods we're seeing around Lake Ontario? Looking at the above pictures, there doesn't look to be much wiggle room if water levels go up much further.
