Do we know for sure there would be at-grade parking? I doubt the zoning would permit that sort of thing, let alone the residents.

Most residents in the area won't care about the kind of parking structure. Their concern will be the 1000's of car going to, and leaving that structure.

If the NFL supports the idea of a team in the GTA, maybe, if Toronto is lucky, Mississauga will make a pitch for it and win.

Does any mayor really do anything properly..hey, i live down in South Parkdale/Exhibition Place area where the city for the last decade has rammed so much shit down our throat that we really didnt want.
Come-on for example, in the future if Ontario Place wants a casino Ontario place gets a casino, who is going to stop it....if we the people that live close by cant do it, then forget about people having much of a say that live in other parts of the city.

That was in the 80s...Dont see much at-grade parking in this new proposed Vikings Stadium...we can only wish and hope for something like this down in the Drainage Basin

I continue to maintain the sole reason for Dougie's musings about Hearn was to test the waters on behalf of his donator, the owner of the Hearn lease. Downsview is big enough, or Woodbine by the racetrack, or countless other places. None of them donated to the Ford campaigns.

I did a Leslie Spit bike ride yesterday, and I must admit I'm willing to come around on the Hearn site. As long as NOT A SINGLE DOLLAR from a government goes into it, they could put up a stadium, drop a four-pad arena in a corner of the parking lot, and the development charges would quite likely make Lake Ontario Park actually come to fruition this century. Knock yourself out, and give me my park in a reasonable timeframe.

The chances, however, of zero government involvement when the Fords still need to bail out their buddy for his last cock-up is zero.

AG -- Exhibition has nowhere near enough room for an NFL stadium, IMO.

Why a suburban location? Why not downtown and on the waterfront?

Makes more sense to have it central and close to the transportation hubs downtown. And there are hundreds of hectres of land, undeveloped in the port lands. Again, this isn't the end of the world.

You'd need some kind of people mover from Union to the stadium (although, come to think of it, this would be a fabulous excuse to get that gravy-train LRT on QQ East built. You could get on at Union without going outside, and get out right at the stadium, if they extended the LRT through LDL to the Port Lands. So, another barnacle I can attach to this Great White Whale...)

2. Seriously? I'm not bashing Ford for privatising garbage collection. I'm not bashing Ford for his eccentric 'pay the cops, starve the garbage collectors' approach to cutting the budget while raising it. I'm not even bashing Ford because he's an asshole to anyone that disagrees with him. I'm bashing him because he loves football, and so has decided that an enormous football stadium is 'not gravy', yet anything he doesn't like (parks, trees, art, festivals) is gravy. Y'all don't think a little criticism on this front might be warranted?

That, my dear SCC, is why it's known as sarcasm. Sorry if it didn't come through. My point (and I did have one) was that I don't think it's out of line to 'bash' (i.e. criticize) Ford within the scope of the topic. And, IMHO, Ford and his donor deserve to be excoriated for this boondoggle.

I say leave the Portlands alone, people want NFL stadiums, bike paths, Calatrava bridges, condos and more condos, LRTs, Monorails, etc. etc. etc....
for gods sake, this city with an area of 243.2 sq miles has a million and one other places to build this fancy schmancy stuff.
In 20 years. we can only wish we had kept this little so Portlands area intact,
Toronto has always been a Great Lakes Port City...whats wrong with keeping it old school.
