The Don River flow is controlled by weirs so the quantity of water flowing will not change. The City and TRCA are working hard to stop all sewers etc discharging into the Don, THAT will (and has) certainly had an effect on cleaning it up.does anybody with a background in the field know whether opening up the mouth as they're doing will have an effect on the river further north? I would think it'll increase the flow and help to keep the river cleaner and more vibrant for wildlife?

This 'tank' is a smallish part of the HUGE Don River and Central waterfront Wet Weather Flow System. https://www.toronto.ca/services-pay...aylor-massey-creek-and-inner-harbour-program/A prime example of this is the massive holding tank they are constructing at Bloor/Danforth and the DVP. You can see it from the viaduct when you pass along on the subway.
It should help ease the flooding and excess discharge back into the surrounding waters.
