Rental rates has a lesser impact on rental housing construction than you think. Setting that aside, what's the point of having all these potential new units built if they are even more unaffordable than fewer units being built with rent control in place? The old adage that rents will go down with more supply doesn't stand up. Developers will never build enough units as they can't afford it.

Which is why these rent controls were such a dumb idea. No incentive now for Devs to build rental units which are so desperately needed.

A number of developers have stated publicly that the legislation hasn't affected their planning, despite there being an obvious opportunity for them to make exactly the opposite point.

Oh, that's great news. I'm looking forward to being able to visit an urban Canadian Tire while staying far away from Dundas Square.

The one on Yonge north of Bloor is relatively urban. And I gotta admit, I enjoy the free parking more than I probably should.. I'm particularly lazy when it comes to hauling back the stuff you tend to buy at Canadian Tire.

This development is so important for the way it knits the urban fabric together in this area…
