Toronto Islands and Skyline Shots

ST: Good TOR islands and skyline pix! As you mentioned those old acorn-topped street signs add to the old look. Where do most of the Mississauga towers stand-what GO Lakeshore W Rail station to be exact? LI MIKE

They aren't actually on the lake, but a good 5km north (if not more). The closest GO station to those towers (which we call MCC around here) would be Cooksville GO. However, Cooksville GO is a few kilometres south of MCC and GO sadly doesn't offer all-day service anyway on the Milton line.

"Legend has it that this building once served ferries to Rochester."

LOL- and to think we were flabbergasted at the makeshift digs they had initially.

The islands are a unique feature of the city- I'll definitely be making a few visits there over the summer. Nice photo tour.

Island and city shots

Thanks for those great photos, especially the island ones. I've lived here since 1975 and was out to the islands a few times in late 70's,but unfortunately, not since then. I really have to get out there and enjoy them.

They've really got to reduce the fares on the ferry boats. That's what makes the islands so under-visited. It shouldn't cost more than a TTC fare from Scarborough. In fact, they should integrate its fare structure with the TTC, accepting transfers and all.

When the ferries were run by the TTC, they accepted TTC fares, but I don't think they accepted or gave transfers. After 1954, the ferries were turned over to Metro Parks, as it started to remove the residents.

$6 return is a bit steep, I agree. I'd at least reduce the fares to those coming off the TTC - have a $3-4 fare to Metropass/Weekly pass holders, and a $3-4 upgrade from a Day Pass, or $3-4 with the presentation of a valid transfer.

Was lucky enough to spend all day yesterday out on the lake. Here's some shots of the city.

For all its faults, at least CityPlace is expanding the skyline westward. When that is complete as well as the towers around Malibu it will be quite the sight from this vantage point. As well, I really hope Signature tower will truly be a signature tower. Something will be needed to break up the monotony of CityPlace.

Can't wait till RBC, Ritz, Shangri-la, Festival, L tower, etc., etc. are built and add some more to this shot.

Thanks for all the pics casaguy!! A lot of great ones here.

fantastic pics from the west end of the harbour! I especially liked the ones that featured the Little Norway neighbourhood at the waters edge. What a very different (and better) vibe they have compared to the central harbour!
