Toronto International Film Festival 2007

Famous movie star Cheadle's back again today, with rent-a-cops ( actors? ) and crew, and half a dozen trailers parked on Broadview. The most excitement we've had since the live hand grenade was found in the basement of number 48 a decade ago.

Shocker, you may have already discovered that film crews are made up of people who are deeply affected by their own sense of self-importance. They are quite amusing to observe.

i was in the yorkville area today, and while walking to cumberland st. along avenue rd (near the old church), i passed by ethan hawk who was walking down to bloor. he was actually quite tall. i always picutred him a lot shorter. he was walking with 2 ladies, i think one was his assistance or something cuz she was carrying papers. his black velvet suit was nice though.

I saw "Poor Boy's Game" on Wednesday. It dealt with some interesting themes, most notably racism in Canada. I didn't quite buy the whole redemption angle, but it was definitely worth it. The cast and director were also there, which I thought was great since I'd never been to a screening where they showed up and stayed to answer questions.

This is a silly question but: what exactly is the point of the FF? I hardly ever watch movies and certainly do not follow celebrities so what's the big appeal?

Many people seemed to think I was a star (i am lol) and a few cuties congratulated me on my latest film; I replied that my next porno is due for release next Spring....

There are several: 1) The festival is a market place - the majority of the movies have no distribution deal when they come, and the producers will be looking to sell them to a distributor so they can ultimately be shown in theatres and on tv and video ets. 2) It's a test run - many of the movies haven't been seen by an audience before they get here. Toronto is one of the few festivals that opens screenings to the public, and Toronto has a sophisticated audience. Producers and directors can guage what sort of reception their movie will get when it get released. 3) It's a launch pad - Oscar campaigns begin on the day the festival opens. Already you can hear people speculating who will be nominated. Good buzz coming out of Toronto can turn into little gold men come February.

Has anyone been to Circa? Isn't this it's make or break week?

they were supposed to open sept 7, but i guess the whole deal with the liquor license set them back again which is a shame.

to make people in Toronto feel special that stars are visiting their city...

okay its not a reason but a spin off effect.

Most people I know love it for the movies. They couldn't really care less about the stars.

I truly despise the celebrity worship. Don't newspapers and TV news programs have any real news to cover?

Editors and managers select the news they cover. To them, this is real news because it gets readers and viewers to watch or read.
