Its called Mississauga city center as its alternate name for a reason. this is no bramalea city centre situation where it makes it look like brampton has another downtown. The skyline and skyscrapers are at square one and they clearly intended it to be that for a reason

It looks like piers for a new off ramps to the to allow room on the overpass for the LRT. Not sure when work on the 407 was awarded for work on it and possible the province is paying for this if the contract was awarded before the LRT was. More up on site

Right, because Dundas-Hurontario isn't a sea of parking? lol

Depends upon what the property taxes Mississauga charges for surface parking lots?

End tax advantage for parking lots, (Ottawa) councillor says

From link. Dated Apr 12, 2018.

Ottawa's relatively generous tax policy for space-hogging downtown parking lots should be updated to encourage smarter development, an Ottawa city councillor believes.

"We want to invigorate, we want to revitalize downtown, and I think to do that we have to make sure we're sending the right tax signals to do that," Rideau-Rockcliffe Coun. Tobi Nussbaum said Wednesday.

Right now the typical commercial property owner in Ottawa pays 1.9 times the residential property tax rate, while owners of surface parking lots pay only 1.3 times the residential rate.

Nussbaum believes that creates an incentive for parking lot owners, who might otherwise put their property to better use.

"We're actually providing a tax benefit, a tax advantage, to surface parking lots and vacant lots," he said. "I think everyone would agree that a surface parking lot or a vacant lot is not as beneficial as a small business."

(Ottawa) Mayor concerned

Councillors agreed unanimously Wednesday to ask staff to come back with recommendations to bring the city's commercial tax policy in line with its goal of promoting transit-oriented development. Nussbaum hopes to have those suggestions before council sets the 2019 tax rates.

Mayor Jim Watson supported Nussbaum's motion, but expressed some concerns about hitting lot owners with higher taxes.

"I hope this is not just about adding a new tax to make it more expensive for people to visit the downtown core," Watson said.

Last year the city brought in a similar change designed to discourage vacant buildings, which Watson described as a "blight" on the city.

Council voted to end tax rebates for owners of vacant property, which some councillors criticized as an incentive to let buildings go to ruin.

The sea of parking actually reminds me of a typical North American mid-size city downtown.

Sure, but Square One and many other Mississauga areas have the exact same thing. Other than being smack dab in the middle, I don't see why Dundas-Hurontario would be downtown Sauga.

Lots of Mississauga versions of "Yonge-Dundas Square" at Dundas & Hurontario. Now if they got rid of ONE of the surface parking lots, as a start...

I get Ontario is officially bilingual and therefore Metrolinx as well, but it's a bit ridiculous that a local transit line in Missisauga/Brampton has bilingual (French) signage.
It's also ridiculous that someone would find offence at seeing an official language of this country and province, regardless of where.

The GTA isn't a French speaking region of Canada, so French signage here is kind of dumb. And Ontario isn't officially bilingual.
The government of Ontario is bilingual, although the province technically isn't. There are also nine designated bilingual regions in this province, including Greater Toronto. And maybe you can explain for us why seeing French is "kind of dumb."
