Half of City Council was loudly in favour of a grand Lakeshore Boulevard in the East end to replace the Gardiner. Well, they have the West Lakeshore with no Gardiner above it and it runs right alongside the water. This is their opportunity to put our money where their mouth is.
Just as you said, they can build wide sidewalks on both sides with a buffer of trees. Then zone it for low rise buildings with restaurants in the podiums and patios in front. The speed limit on Lakeshore is already low at 60km/hr yet it feels like a highway because it's not at all pedestrian friendly.
While Queens Quay ends at Stadium Road, they could continue that public realm treatment up Bathurst and then along Lakeshore to at least Ontario Place.
yes, the land is there, but there aren't any developers bribing the councillors to do anything in the west. After all, grand balvd is important, but land for condos are more important.
