A Little Inspiration From The Neighbours
Construction sites can often seem chaotic and rough; there’s the industrial materials, covered walkways and the always present walls keeping the curious out and construction in. And while this is true 99% of the time, the construction site at our FORM community – located within steps of OCAD University and The Art Gallery of Ontario – took some inspiration from the neighbours and transformed FORM into something entirely different.
Partners in a Public Art Initiative
Tridel has partnered with OCAD University and The Patch Project – a social enterprise operated by the award-winning STEPS Initiative who helps bring art to public spaces – and created a program to transform the construction hoarding surrounding the FORM community into an open air art gallery accessible to everyone. The goal was to represent a mix of media and genres of past and present students of OCAD University. A request for submissions was made and we received an enthusiastic response, with over 100 artists responding. It is always exciting to be reminded of how much local talent exists in Toronto and in Canada. The choices were eventually narrowed down by an expert panel and a short list of recommendations were made. Final selections of 14 artists were made by an in-person review panel.
Unveiling the Open Space Gallery
Thanks to the support of community partners and to the artists, on Wednesday, May 9th, all the hard work came together during the unveiling of the FORM-OCADU Open Space Gallery.
These beautiful works from students and alumni of OCAD University are currently on display at 50 McCaul Street. Of course, it’s also a great chance to visit the newly revitalized Grange Park, which has recently undergone its own transformation.

They are using a new(ish) type of concrete here for the floor structure - was featured on CBC's The National on Friday night. The concrete has CO2 trapped inside it.
