Cheap solution for extending the life of the deteriorating brick.

Though it's worth noting that painting brick was considered rather modish in the Yorkvillean 1960s--thus the term "whitepainters" for the gentrifiers of the day. (By the 70s, fashion went the other way t/w sandblasting--and with sad irony, the sandblasting often resulted in surface brick so fatally damaged that it had to be protectively re-painted.)
