Was watching the Design Review Panel for 58 York Blvd across the street, and heard staff mention that there is a larger component of the arena project that is yet to come. It sounded like it wasn't directly related to the renovation as they suggested it already started. Makes me wonder if the arena project team have plans to propose a residential or commercial addition to the core in this area on one of the properties they gained access to with the deal with the city.

Let's hope so!

I gave it a quick listen... around 18:20 at this link:

The one guy says "I think there's a larger component to that project that may be yet to come." The person didn't seem to be sharing any information on anything concrete (and he even called the arena FirstOntario Place rather than Centre). My guess is that he was just referring to the larger Hamilton Commons initiative and/or the HUPEG goals of updating the FirstOntario Concert Hall theatre and the convention centre, which aims to do a bunch of stuff over time, but I am guessing that nothing is set yet or close to it.

Reading the comments on Facebook and IG always makes me so sad. I love Hamilton, but it has a lot of small-minded, negative, uneducated dummies.
