I'm surprised no one has been posting about the EXCITING new opening of Cedarvale today (sans Line 5 access). I saw a few influencer types out there trying to make the empty, white, hospital-looking tunnels look interesting. Clearly they didn't blow the bank on design that honours the art and architecture of the Eglinton West Line 1 platforms. Anyway, those white walls wont' be white for long!
I thought I would check out the crossing under Eglinton West from the south entrance at Eglinton & Everden. That was a mistake. It's not just inaccessible it's VERY inaccessible. I think I counted 5 flights of steps down, down, down, no escalator or elevator options. Then you hit a fare gate. No fare-free crossing of Eglinton underground here! That would have been too great. So for me who lives south of Eglinton, and often has a bike with me, and for the many other people who can't navigate a ton of steps, we will all still be waiting for the very slow crossings to get across this urban highway.
Don't get me wrong, it's good there is an entrance on the south side, but could they not find a way to make it a) accessible b) a way to actually get across the street without paying a fare? I guess the reality is that the large majority of EW (aka Cedarvale) passengers arrive via bus, or walk from the north side, primarily from west of the station. Still, disappointing!
p.s. I attached some photos, but I think they are too big? I even tried shrinking them a lot, but I keep getting a "we ran into a problem" error.
