Honestly if simcoe street in Oshawa can get an underground lrt in order to preserve those heritage houses than surely in Toronto which lacks parks we should be going underground here.

You cannot put this underground in this area as its a floodplain and you would have to go very deep to get under the river that is there. Extra protection to the tunnel would be require. The idea was looked at and it required a floodgate at the east end to protect the system to the east. Even if the line ran on the surface, a floodgate was required.

Brussels Metro is only an LRT that runs both on the surface as well underground.

The post you responded to didn't mention the rest of the Crosstown. It was referring to the Ontario Line, Line 2 extension to Sheppard, and Line 1 extension to Highway 7.

Good point, though I meant the major delays for the crosstown and the most visible impacts are from where the stations are being dug up to connect to the existing subway line.

And those are due for replacement in the coming years or decade and better to do it now than dig things up again down the road.

What is taking place at Yonge has turn out to be harder than plan for.. Its not only the building of the LRT station, but moving TTC line 1 access to it. Both Line 1 stations are the hold up for the line to open as well a few other things.

TTC has funding in their 2023 for operations budget for late this year for both Lines 5 & 6 with full funding for 2024.
