Toronto Eaton Centre

Agreed that the black ceiling treatment for Simons should have skewed to the right towards the entrance.
Eataly’s exterior is done. A lot of work left to do inside from what I could tell through a crack in the door. Supposed to open this month but I’m not seeing it. Maybe late November.

Nike is still having problems with that bottom glazing. Work done with a punched out panel seems to indicate a humidity or heat issue.

Overall, the transformation from one store to three has gone well but I think there could’ve been better coordination on the placement of the signage and finishings. Nothing is aligned and the signs pull your eye in different directions.
I think Simons sign is lined up down the atrium, but is off-centre on its facade and sits on the bottom sill of the window.
Eataly's sign is off-centre to the right on its facade and aligned at the top of its window.
Nike is centred on its facade relates well to its store facade.

I wonder whether a uniform background treatment with 3 logos would have worked?
Simons would probably have wanted their signature green.

It could have been worse:

So something we have kinda missed on here lately in the massive expansion of Aritzia, who are expanding their existing store to include the entire former Le Chateau space on Level 2. After the expansion is done it's going to be one of the largest stores at TEC. And tbh this mostly came to mind for me today as they were announced as the 1st of 4 tenants for the former Nordstrom box in Vancouver (they're taking over the corner of Robson and Howe) with a new 40,000 sqft store in 2027. Meanwhile the new TEC store should be done this winter, if signage is to be believed.

Are they taking over the little space next to Aldo too?

I really hope CF reconsiders their outside envelope and how stores turn their backs on the street. Look at the Albert St entrance. It’s usually fairly lively out here yet the stores have opaque windows. What a waste not only for the street presence but the stores who could have better engagement with passersby.

I think so. I'll have to check next time I walk through TEC but I'm pretty sure the construction hoarding is all the way to Aldo.

As for the Albert St entrance, it would be nice if Aritzia added one of their cafe's (which I believe is part of the plan for the expanded store) and had it open out onto the patio space there.

That would be nice. James and Albert could be a nice quaint street, a rare “small town” outdoor space for a mall of this size, but CF doesn’t understand the benefit of making their outside spaces attractive.

Not inside ≠ Not selling is the mentality here when it should be: create attractive spaces and people will be drawn here and stay longer, returning inside to make purchases.

Opposite Aritzia but on the second floor, Lululemon could totally support a 2 level flagship if they took the ground level as well.

As this is not the Urban Vancouver Forum, I will not drop the other Pacific Centre tenant's names....

But I will say.........its CF............so maybe you won't be surprised.

The final piece of the Eatons/Sears/Nordstrom box reconfiguration is finished:

It's not bad but it's sadly far more opaque than I was expecting. The Simons/Nike/Eataly corner feels like an endpoint nook rather than the continuation of the mall through a corridor that this was initially billed as. Eataly has its cafe on one side, and an escalator up on the side closest to Simons.

Outside, the windswept Yonge entrance remains so. I still have my hopes up for an activation of this space as a patio in the Spring.

Back inside, the so-called "corridor" which is more of a cul-de-sac could use some seating and/or planters by the pillars :

I mean, it turned out exactly how I said it would prior to all this work happening. The idea that this was going to be a mall corridor was nothing but speculation.
