Woolworth’s/WoolCo still actually exists though (they renamed themselves Foot Locker a few decades back).

Resurrecting the Eaton’s name might be harder. They went bankrupt and were bought by Sears, who themselves went bankrupt and were completely liquidated. So who knows who owns the name now.

A shell company owned by Cadillac Fairview (itself owned by the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan) owns the Eaton's name.

While attending the Geese installation ceremony I was able to get a couple of shots of the construction of the new food hall, located down on the lowest level at the southernmost end of the mall.

Still looking quite preliminary behind the tarp, no new framing up yet. The rectangular pit could be the base for a new elevator? CF Senior Director of Project Management, David Stewart, told me they are putting in an elevator that will be 40% larger than the current ones, intended to accommodate families with strollers.

Original flooring from 1979. With some modifications. There used to be a fountain there too.

That juxtaposition of 1979 vs 2023 highlights how stripped down and bland things have become. Even something mundane like a shopping mall floor used to be stylish. 1970s design aesthetics are slowly coming back into vogue (Schwartz Reisman Innovation Centre) so maybe we're finally, design-wise, emerging from what has been a truly depressing 30 years.
