Closure: September 29 - October 1, 2019
Bay Street, from Front to Lakeshore Blvd

This weekend, Bay Street will close from Front Street to Lake Shore Boulevard to support work on the Bay Street bridge with work being done on the south side. The closure will be in effect as follows:

  • September 29: 2100 to 0500 (Sunday night to Monday morning)
  • September 30: 2100 to 0500 (Monday night to Tuesday morning)
  • October 1: 2100 to 0500 (Tuesday night to Wednesday morning)

The Bay Teamways will remain open during these times according to the established management plan.

I was worried initially about how wide this building might look. The diamond pattern works wonders to elongate the building and the lack of spandrel panels creates a uniform, uninterrupted glass surface also emphasizing verticality. The architects knew what they were doing here.

September 26 - these photos were taken a minute apart.. helps appreciate how different the diamonds can look based on the position/brightness of the sun.

Edit: Added a third from tonight :)

Over 10,000 square meters of public amenities, restaurants and outdoor park space to connect you to your community

The Community
CIBC SQUARE is a landmark development for the City of Toronto, consisting of two office towers - 81 Bay and 141 Bay - linked by an elevated public park that bridges across the rail corridor and connects the Financial Core to the Southcore and Waterfront.
We appreciate your interest in the CIBC SQUARE project and look forward to participating in the development of the Southcore community. We are working closely with our neighbours as we proceed with construction on this project, and we are committed to keeping the community informed.
For any comments or questions, please contact us at community@cibcsquare.com

FAQs
When will CIBC SQUARE be complete?
CIBC SQUARE is being built in two phases. Phase 1 – the construction of 81 Bay – is projected to be completed by 2020, and includes a PATH connection to the Air Canada Centre. Phase 2 – the construction of 141 Bay – is projected to be completed by the end of 2023, and includes PATH connections to Union Station and the Esplanade. The public park is expected to be partially opened as part of Phase 1 of the project in 2021 and fully opened as part of Phase 2, in 2023.
Why does construction continue overnight?
Overnight work is necessary for the construction of several elements of our project. As we are building in an active rail corridor, we are not allowed to have construction personnel or equipment on the rail corridor when the trains are running on the tracks. This means we are only permitted to work at night, when train traffic has slowed. When overnight construction is necessary, we are committed to completing the work as quickly as possible and keeping our neighbours informed. We are working closely with our contractor, EllisDon, to expedite this work, and to reduce as much as possible the impact of the noise for our neighbours.
Why does the CIBC SQUARE construction site generate so much noise?
While any construction site poses noise challenges, there are unique challenges with a project this complex. Much of the work involves deep drilling to ensure that the buildings have a strong foundation. In particular, the elevated park requires 40 caisson foundations to be drilled into bedrock. We commit to working with our neighbours to keep you informed and where possible take steps with our contractors to limit noise. We will make every effort to give advance notice when overnight or noisy construction is required.
Will the construction affect local traffic?
Every effort has been made to minimize the impact of CIBC SQUARE’s construction on traffic. This includes the design of the construction site itself, which isolates certain aspects of traffic to the construction site from general traffic on Bay Street. However, we continue to solicit perspectives from pedestrians, commuters and drivers about the impact of our project on their travels through the City, and we are working with traffic consultants, BA Group, to ensure that our site is in keeping with the best design principles.
Will the park be accessible to the public?
CIBC SQUARE’s one-acre elevated park is a state-of-the art, publicly accessible outdoor space. Built over the rail corridor it will connect the new 81 Bay and 141 Bay Street buildings and provide much-needed public greenspace to the Southcore neighbourhood. It is expected to be partially opened as part of Phase 1 of our project, in 2021, and fully opened as part of Phase 2 at the end of 2023.
Will the complex be sustainable?
CIBC SQUARE will meet the newest and most innovative standards. The project is designed to attain LEED® Platinum certification for the protection of our environment and the limitation of harmful carbon emissions, and WELL certification, for the health of its interior environments. The project is the first in Toronto to receive a WiredScore Platinum pre-certification, for its reliable and secure connectivity. Further, CIBC SQUARE is designed to deter bird strikes, in accordance with the City of Toronto’s development guidelines.

CONSTRUCTION NOTICE - SEPTEMBER 27, 2019

Construction Notice - September 27, 2019

Construction Notice
Dear neighbours,
Bay Street will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Sunday, September 29th, Monday, September 30th and Tuesday, October 1st. The closure will take place between Front Street and Lake Shore Boulevard. This closure will allow construction crews to safely remove scaffolding used in the installation of the new PATH pedestrian bridge over Bay Street and when complete, this pedestrian bridge will connect CIBC SQUARE to the northeast corner of the Scotiabank Arena. While our crews will do the best to minimize noise, we do expect there will be some hammering noise as workers dismantle the scaffolding into pieces.
During this closure, pedestrians may access Union Station GO Bus Terminal, the Union Station Bay East and West Teamways, Scotiabank Arena Gate 1, and Bremner Blvd. from Front St. only.
We thank you in advance for your patience during this phase of construction. For any questions or comments, please email us at community@CIBCSQUARE.com.
Thank you

skycandy's first pic will be documented as the firsrt "dark and brooding" version of the myriad looks this tower will offer.

Ever notice how 99.78% of english language authors use "myriad" once or twice in every book, be it spy thriller or real "literature". I have a myriad of feelings about this.
Myriad originally meant "ten thousand."

Ancient Greek, the Chinese languages, Korean, Japanese, and Hindi group large numbers in myriads.

Ive heard whispers that the initial plan to move the inner city buses from the bus terminal on Dundas to the bus terminal here is no longer happening. Something about roof heights, number of bus bays and radius of the turning ramp being not meeting the expected standards.
