- guys guys guys......it's about cash, not design....not affordable homes....just business, strictly business.
From INFRASTRUCTURE ONTARIO directly to C.B.R.E.
[ Coldwell Banker Richard Ellis , the American commercial real estate firm,
largest commercial real estate services company in the entire world.]
on to DREAM-KILMER-TRICON [ who then opened up their R.E.I.T.s ]
on to TORONTO CITY PLANNING [ with its ''
working groups'' ]
on its way - - - all the way,
to our TORONTO CITY COUNCIL
- then over-ruled & accelerated by the MZ0 passed in 2020.

- it's about cash, not design....not affordable homes....just business, strictly business.

You ok?

Err, I think this person is attempting to connect a lot here of dots in unconventional ways. However, whether those dots connecting are substantiated is entirely another thing.

Perhaps this debate should be taken somewhere else...as there warrant to how parties are pushing concept of affordable housing. And it's not always what we think it means, The Princess Bride style. >.<

It has elements I like and dislike.
The ground treatment seems pretty nice and in keeping with the area. The overall look is a bit monolithic though, and I worry about the top portion and whether it will age well.

Somewhere, Doug Ford will get his ferris wheel...

Interesting. I was reading Matt Elliot's City Hall Watcher newsletter (I pay for it, and like it) and noticed an interesting speculation about the MZO. Apparently residents in the Distillery District were strongly opposed to the application and were going to appeal the project to the LPAT?

Sometimes I think Residents Associations are their own worst enemy. Especially for a development like this, which I (personally) think has a level of thought, care and...uniqueness that we should hope from other projects in Toronto.

Interesting thought, but I doubt that the provincial government felt threatened by a Resident Association, especially after the LPAT/OBM support for residents was cut by the province.
In fact, the Resident Associations (GWNA/WDLC) are supporting the overall massing/density of the development:

https://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/mmis/2020/te/comm/communicationfile-121770.pdf

However, a group of Distillery residents appear to oppose the development; quote from the letter:

8. How does the City ensure that it is receiving actual neighbourhood opinions when consulting the WDLC and the GWNA and not the opinions of individuals that may or may not have a conflict of interest or are lobbyists?
……
We see our concerns now confirmed as the GWNA and the WDLC claim in their letters to Council (6) that they represent the opinion of 80 and 70 Mill residents with respect to overall massing, density and envelope of the development. Their statement is incorrect as de-facto 70 plus residents of 80 and 70 Mill street took issue with the overall massing, density and building envelope of the new development documented in two surveys provided to the Working Group, city and developer. …….

I also recall a post on the WDLC email list by several residents requesting a correction of the WDLC statement of support for the development submitted to the TEYCC council meeting in October.

New docs uploaded in late March - no major differences, just seem to be hammering out final details, however we got an extensive material sample document which helps paint a picture of how these buildings will come together.

so is the main courtyard building not going to have brick-faced precast concrete panels? should they just be big, flat, maroon red panels, I'm not sure how well that's going to present itself on such a monolithic building. fine-grain material and texture is the weapon they have to scale this puppy down.
