Does anybody know about the building behind Wolfitts Art Supplies and the West Side Lofts sales centre?

Apparently Adam Giambrone has been viciously fighting and appealing the OMB decision with a developer who wants to tear it down. Giambrone's not standing back despite OMB's go ahead to take it down.

It has its own smokestack and looks heritage worthy. However, from Google Maps, it looks like it's already trash: Google Maps

It's from a different developer, but is slated to become a part of Bohemian Embassy's "campus".

As soon as this thing's finished, I'm marching in the front door and demanding an audience with the Bohemian Ambassador.

Will he be a Bohemian from Bohemia, or an artist who has chosen an unconventional lifestyle and poverty? Anyone from France might think of him as nothing more than a Gypsy.

Shouldn't phase two be the Moravian Embassy? Everyone will want to Czech it out, then.

what if you're a republican and you want to get naked against some redwoods; will they have a bohemian club?

Good points, but the people moving in probably want the name cache and not the living elements that gave the neighbourhood its reputation. That way, their arrival will have brought the revival of the area. It's a Bohemian-Bourgeoisie development.

But this is replacing a 1 storey industrial building and a car wash. Even at its artsy-est height this side of the street was dead all the time. Wholescale demolition would be a problem but there is enough existing fabric to remain that should prevent this area from turning into King west of Bathurst.

Doesn't the wholesale demolition on this strip and the creation of what amounts to the ultimate yuppi-fication of an area really fly in the face of the counter-culture that forged the path to make this 'hood hip in the first place? The name alone is just an insult.

Condo names are nearly always idiotic, and often refer to whatever the building will supplant by being built. (In this case Bohemian character.)

Candy Factory lofts I can see but who wants to be in the 'condo crowd' in this 'hood once the hookers and heroine addicts have left?

Huh? Wha? Yeah, there goes the neighbourhood when the hookers and heroine addicts leave.

I agree with all of your points.
