I'd never seen any photos of the old Scotia building under construction.

The 1945 date may be incorrect, Aladone.
Other sources give the completion date as 1951, which would confirm my memory of being amazed by the steelworkers as I watched during my lunchtimes when I worked nearby as a teenager.
Wish I'd been more of a photographer in those days!

There's no way they would have been building something this large in 1945. With the war on materials for anything non-war related would have been scarce.

ok, i checked back to the handy dandy archives to get a date on the photo and they say 194?. so, safe bet to say late 40s, 48 49? maybe 50?

To your point, this pic shows excavation of the Bank of Montreal building in 1939, but the building was not completed until the late 40's.
