We probably have 400 fewer BBQ than we did 30 years ago (a guess); I would argue for adding 1,000 spread over 20-30 locations. Though each location should have a year-round washroom, a drinking fountain and water-bottle filling station, and a bucket-fill as well for putting out the BBQ...

This went from bad to worse with the loss of the red brick accents, it looks almost prison-like in those photos. Grim.

Toronto really has a knack for building monstrosities in its most prominent sites...
A streak of beautiful development proposals then clonk! One of these comes along and destroys the aesthetic build-up.
Almost as if the city knows how to put itself back in place.

The context here is just asking for wavy balcony crap.

This was precast out of used socks from Value Village.

It's like being at a fun party and then an energy vampire shows up.

It was a missed opportunity to allow this to be built when all evidence suggested this would be mediocre tower on a signature site for the ages, that's trying to mimic cool. And it's not doing a very good job at even that, IMO. /sigh

Nice to see G&C are continuing their tradition of gross asymmetry on important facades.

It's not even the overuse of spandrel. It's the low-quality glass.
Toronto developers gotta learn that the ugly effect of spandrel glass can be somewhat mitigated with the application of curtain wall-like glass:

eg. One Pacific Condos in VanCity

I don't think so. They where elder structures to which one hosted a Second Cup or something if my memory serves me correct..

...so there's lots of things you can blame the church for, but not this one I thinks. >.<

It was called "Certified Bean Cafe" in its latest iteration, and "Orange Alert" cafe prior to that.
