Toronto 65 King Street East | 82.9m | 18s | Carttera | WZMH

Tom Jones looks like a porta-potty now.

You know, Tom Jones is a heritage building...........but it really isn't one of the prettiest currently..............

Even before factoring in its new found context (as opposed to being surrounded by a parking lot).

Got me thinking............I wonder what it used to look like.

From the City Archive - 1972

This shot from 1920 seems to depict the building looking a bit different, though its hard to tell from the angle at King Street:

I see in the report linked below, that the first part of the building dates from 1878, with much of the rest added in 1884. So it's 143 years old.

The building was apparently the home of the first ever Grand & Toy for those who remember the long-time Canadian Stationary chain.

Tom Jones has been (was) there since 1965.

The building appears to have been surrounded by parking as far back as 1947.

I can't find a single photo of what it originally looked like!

Here is more info on the streetscape work - which will now definitely not happen until 2022.
