Anyone know what is going on with the west side yards facing Homewood? What's with all the sand? Is there some sort of desert theme going on here?

It seems they are continuing the theme of the park, same gravel they just put down on the north/east section around the missing London Plane tree. Now they need to fix the fallen light post.
I think if they were going to do the same thing like the park they should have planted the trees along the same lines.
 
Seems to me like they're trying to recreate a miniature version of this wonderful park in Bordeaux, France:

I think you are right, they used the same trees too.
 
I noticed that 500's angled rooftop feature is now illuminated at night, it looks good.
 
They've closed in the south end of the park with an attractive fence and they're doing the landscaping between 500 Sherbourne and 490 Sherbourne. The only missing part now is the abandoned looking woodlot sandwiched between the park's fence and Wellesley Central's park.
