That building is going nowhere and is part of the Union Center development

As of June 30, the building was 99.1% occupied, has an annual NOI of just under $35,000,000 (that's not gross rent, that's NET OPERATING INCOME) and has an appraised value of over half a billion dollars. The building has the highest rents in the City - except maybe for some Bloor / Yorkville street level ground floor retail rents - and that is just a maybe except for. As Automation Gallery says - that building is going nowhere.

For a long time - do not know if this was the original incarnation, but suspect it may have been - this building was the Toronto base for CNCP Telecommunications. The railways were heavy early telecoms users for train orders, dispatching and on route control of their trains, and from an early stage offered services to the public - telegram services in North America was generally operated by the railway telecommunications operations, followed by the Telex service.

Allstream is the current incarnation of the original CN and CP telecommunications services, but at some point during the transitions, the building at 151 Front Street ended up (if I recall correctly) being owned by Morguard, from whom Allied acquired it approximately ten years ago.

What was uncalled for? The point was that the bits that make up the page you're looking at probably travelled through 151 Front at some point on their journey between UT's server and your computer, which is actually pretty damn cool.

My dad worked at 151 Front for many years as a CNT manager. All his life he was connected to CN one way or another. My two younger brothers took care of the physical plant maintenance in that building, back in the early to mid-80s. I used to meet my brothers for lunch from time to time and had a number of unofficial tours of the building. There used to be miles of thick black cable in that place. Hopefully it's been replaced by fibre optics by now but.... well, back in the day let's just say that building was connected.
