Let's not have this thread veer off into Toronto vs. Calgary. Back on topic please.
Agreed, save that for skyscraperpage. They have those debates practically every other month.

This is one time I would want to see a Sketchup of the area with all the proposals in place. Union Centre will be right across the street from 156 Front, and almost as tall. The two towers have different but somewhat similar curvy designs, and I suspect (hope) that they will work well together.
Not to mention the Foster supertalls at Oxford Place just down the street, which will also grab some of the attention being being directed toward 156 Front..
As far as the Oxford/Foster proposal goes, I think the market is their enemy. It isn't easy securing leases on that much office space, and I wouldn't be surprised if Oxford scales this down in order to begin construction. I also wouldn't be surprised if the ambitious proposal was just a way to sell a casino to the city.
I doubt they'd scale it down - they aren't in a rush to redevelop the property - and it is definitely one of the largest sites available in the core these days.
I believe that one of the reasons that Oxford was pushing for a casino at the location was to provide enough cash flow to speed up the development timescale for the rest of Oxford Place. So instead of taking 10-15 years to build it out, Oxford's share of the casino revenues might have reduced the buildout time to maybe 7-10 years. A casino might also have increased the built-in market for hotel space. Without a casino, the hotel towers are likely to be scaled back or even eliminated (they might be replaced by condo towers, given Toronto's long-term demand for more downtown living space), but the size of the office towers would presumably not be effected.

It looks like a coffin. I just realized it. It's a coffin.
