These should be interesting to watch. Nobody expects St. Lambert to go anything but Bloc. But there is an interesting three-way race in Guelph, with Tom King (author, Massey Lecturer and CBC broadcaster) running as a star candidate, apparently a pretty strong Tory and some Liberal hack. Libs took it last time, but only with 38% of the vote, so it's certainly not a "safe" seat.
Westmount-Ville Marie will be the ultimate test of Dion's leadership. It's even more of a Liberal fortress than Outremont was, but they have a stronger candidate in astronaut Marc Garneau than Dion's handpicked candidate in Outremont. The NDP has a high-profile candidate in Anne Lagace-Dowson, another CBC broadcaster. One difference this time is that the NDP is considered in contention at the starting gate, unlike in Outremont where at the beginning Tom Mulcair's chances were pretty much dismissed (and then he didn't just win, he pretty much swept the riding!) The NDP took 15% of the vote in Westmount in '06, their third-best result in Quebec and now CROP polls show them running at about 15% or more province-wide. The Conservatives shouldn't be much of a factor in Westmount.
