The Junction

^You're still here J.P! Here I thought you'd gone and disappeared into a Junction Pit!

Any new gossip of what's opening or closing on the Junction/Dundas West strip?

hahaha @ junction pit :D

hmmm Nothing's closing! There will be a brand new vegetarian restaurant in the place of an old electronics store:
it'll be called The Foundation (dundas/pacific), exactly like this one:

Friends of Malta Park?

You don't have to be a parent to participate :)

Malta Park is the gem of the Junction, it's almost completely shaded by trees, has a fabulous kids playground and large empty space that can potentially be used for future community events like kids toys/books/clothing exchange, outdoor arts&crafts events, neighbourhood family get-togethers...etc

The newly built Junction Train Platform at Dundas St W and Pacific Ave will have to come down one day because it's located on a privately owned empty lot that will probably be sold to a condo developer one day, when this happens, where will we hold community events? Please consider Malta Park, take a walk down to 3179 Dundas St W (by St.Johns Rd & Laws St) and look at the park with a critical eye, especially the East side of it, then close your eyes and imagine fun, family-oriented outdoor events under the thick shade of the beautiful tall trees above :)

Lately we've been complaining about the cigarette butts on the playground, dog poo and beer bottles littering the west side of it, no one seems to truly care about this beautiful space. Should we think about forming a volunteer community group similar to Friends of Dufferin Grove Park ? Check out their website: http://dufferinpark.ca/aboutus/wiki/wiki.php

Fellow parent of 2 kids and my friend, Susan, who lives near-by started me thinking about this day and night, she is the one who called and emailed Bill Saundercook's office for weeks in order to install a gate to already existing fence on the Dundas St W side of the park to protect the kids from the busy road, the gate was installed (Thank you Susan and Bill Saundercook's office!!!) and it made me believe that if we truly want to make this park our new community space, it's definitely possible!

If you like this idea, please go to this website: http://junction-parents.blogspot.com/

Leave a comment and vote in our new poll on this subject (for polls scroll to the very bottom of the blog :)

Huge thank you in advance,

Irina

When it comes to Malta Park, is there any consideration re the future of the Baker's Dozen site? I can picture/idealize the city expropriating it on behalf of extending Malta Park into the St. John's/Dundas gore...

I'd be willing to help keep things clean. The City did a nice job creating that tiny cobblestone square nearby at St. Johns and Dundas. Too bad it's such a small space that it's underutilized.

JUNCTION community meeting- Wed.,July 2nd at 7p.m. @ the Troubadour Bar Patio

3071 Dundas St West (Dundas St W & Quebec Ave)

The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the possible creation of the Junction Residents' Association, get to know your neighbours and give the Junction community a voice. It's about time!

I know, I can't stand the sight of the Baker's Dozen, the staff are really nice but the clientelle are really gross, they leave beer bottles, cigarette butts, offer disgusting comments when I walk by with the kids...this place is just plain ewwww...

Thanks Junctionist, you should attend the community meeting on Wednesday!

The little cobblestone square is completely grown over with weeds and grass, it needs to be maintained...

anyone have insight into the reason for the delays with respect to the options Village by High Park project? is it still because of NRI (that factory behind it)

We purchased a unit there too, the both phases will be built at the same time, did you ever attend any of the meetings?

Our unit is in phase 2 almost at the very top, we'll probably take posession in the next century...

West Toronto Rail Path

Does anyone know if there have any developments with the proposed Rail Path? This is the last I've heard:

Railpath Update - April 17, 2008

The City's tender for the project has closed and by the end of April 2008 the contract will have been awarded. Construction should start early in May.

Negotiations with GO Transit are ongoing regarding coordinating access to these lands due to their ongoing rail grade separation project in the same area. Railpath work will start this spring regardless.

Anticipated completion of the project is June 2009.
