This place needs to be closed. They constantly have loud events with no regard for people living within five blocks.. they just dont care about noise violations.

This is such a silly and anecdotal statement. They’re not even open past 11pm or before 9am. It’s a huge draw for the neighborhood and there’s nothing else like it in the city. We actually need more spaces like this IMO for people to visit and spend time at.

Anyway, Stackt is a funny place. I find it oddly disjointed and underwhelming. It just looks like it was put together by a committee whose members were phoning it in.

It blew my mind when they decided that all the boxes should be black. Argh. Ack. Ugh.

Yup, that's one complaint. Too dire and sterile, to begin with. Kind of like a big corporation's idea of "fun." But then again, very little of it feels like it was well thought out. I remain uninspired after two separate visits.

I think that's an unfortunate issue with a lot of these sorts of projects in Toronto. We often take fun and interesting ideas but then run them through a corporate focus group, make sure most of the colour and character is eliminated, and end up with a sort of sterile implementation of the original concept.

The decision to partner with Blue/Belgian Moon (owned by global behemoth Molson Coors) for the "microbrewery" as opposed to partnering with a local Toronto brewery told me enough.

Agreed. A shame a good local microbrewery wasn't chosen. A shame the containers weren't painted in a swath of bold colours.

I went to Stackt to see this (looked better in the render), but the lineup was horrendous. The entire site was jam packed with people lining up for just about everything. Thanks for sharing a closeup photo. If this place is even half as packed on a regular summer evening then it's a resounding cultural success. I took a photo of this which was also an installation at Stackt.

Oh good, I'm glad. Honestly, this feels like a better use of the space than a park. I feel like the area isn't exactly under-parked?

Currently, irrespective of how one feels about Stackt, I would say the area is very under-parked

Victoria Memorial is stupid busy at times.

That said, if they ever get started on the work, Lower Garrison Creek Park should be open next year on the south side of the bridge, which should take some pressure off.

I do wish for better landscaping/plantings for the market though - it's not a bad idea to have a hybrid market/public open space more or less permanently.

There's no reason, in theory, one couldn't integrate some retail, particularly food offerings, into some parks. (make sure you deliver the intended/needed parks program first, but its a solid add-on).

The only problem is that Parks has notoriously been terrible w/food vendors. The limited stuff they've done, in the Eastern Beaches in particular (I think its fair to say scandalous); but also in the Western Beaches and High Park, have generally under-whelmed.

That's fixable, we just need to poach people from City's who manage this well to set up a proper program here; same issue w/retail in the subway system.

It might be a case for the city taking a back-seat given how bad they are at this. I think it is more important to properly green that E-W laneway and extend the the quasi-public open space; improving the forecourt at Bathurst should also be a priority.

I stand corrected! (I don't live in the area, i must just always be around off-peak)

Agreed that if the market does remain, it would be great if they could add more greenery, especially at the Bathurst entrance. But it's nice having an at least semi-public outdoor area that has food & drink options, seating and bathrooms that are clean, gender-neutral & plentiful.
