Suburban developers should be using tree species that are able to thrive in Canadian Shield country like Parry Sound or Killarney--i.e, terrain that has virtually no topsoil. That means lots of silver maples, poplars, trembling aspens and jackpine. Weed trees to some, but to my eyes, full of character and charm.
