Scotiabank Arena (Air Canada Centre) Renovations

Not looking as nice as the renderings where each letter had it's own sign in it's shape.

Yep. It looks like we've got a case of The Cheapening

Render:

If I understand correctly, the colorful letters in the render are the red letters directly above the big screen in the photo, so the result is pretty close to the render, considering the letters are LED and can change colors. So what is this digital screen thingie they are putting up? Was it ever in any of the renders?

No, the letters in the rendering are much bigger and traverse the entirety of the front, past the tip of the angled walls. The existing letters are only on one side of that wall. If you look close at the render you can see that they’re mounted flat to the wall.

Yeah, you're right. Here is a pic from a similar perspective to the render:

Actually, your picture shows a digital screen being installed in the box with spaces left for what look like anchors. Perhaps the letters will still be individual and mounted on a screen background.

Still, the cheap rectangular tiles instead of the custom cladding is a shame.

"The galleria improvements should be completed in the next 12 months, part of a larger plan that will take four to five years."

Happy to hear! Hopefully the PATH connection/stairs on the west side of the arena are a part of this 4-5 year plan. With 30 Bay coming online within 4 years, a rebuild of the Western galleria entrance and direct connection/escalator between Union and the PATH level of the arena is called for.

Yes, I just wrote to Michael Friisdahl the President & CEO of MLSE pointing out to him that these stairs are dangerous for the able-bodied and an impossible barrier for the disabled, aged or with prams etc. The situation is made worse by fact that the elevator (which has no signage) is almost always out of order!

Safe to say we're getting something similar to the renders at least as far as the sign is concerned. Fingers crossed they pattern the cladding as well.
