Hi Micheal, great picture of the ski hill. Do you recall when the hill was closed down?

When we moved to Meadowvale and Sheppard in 79 it was gone. The poles were still there but it looked liked it had been abandoned for at least 10 years.

I was looking for photos of The Three Crowns Restaurant at Warden and Sheppard before it became Red Lobster.It had great steak and Beef and a bar called Swirlers that moved over to Vic. Park when the place closed. All I could find was this matchbook photo.

I remember the Mississauga Three Crowns--my parents liked going there. (Not being a meat-eater, I made do with baked potatoes.)

I use to be a Ski Patrol (CSPS) at Caper Valley during the 1976/77 & 1977/78 ski season. I was attending high-school at the time, and it was fun volunteering my time helping people. I found the position very rewarding. I was also able to hone my alpine skiing skills, which came in handy when my family moved to Alberta in the summer of 1978. Each winter, I try to go skiing (in Banff) at least once a week. I have to credit Caper Valley for this lifelong activity.

Hi Johnnie, yes Caper Valley Hill was named after a road building company called Repac LTD. I used to ski there as a kid. I'll dig out some pics and post soon.

I also thought Caper Valley was owned by Repac Ltd. They offered commercial asphalt & concrete paving services. I guess they were a competitive company, winning a number of government contracts (through the bidding system). As I recall, the portable air compressors used in snow-making, had the distinctive Repac logo on them. Please find attached a picture of one of their sidewalk date-stamps.


Note: It’s funny how something to prolific as Caper Valley could just vanish from history. I bet a lot of people got their first taste of alpine skiing there. It was a good size hill for learning (& maintaining) your skills. It had a comfortable T-bar lift on the north side, plus a couple of rope-tows. The main hill was split into two distinctive sections. One section was mechanically groomed for beginners, and the other was left (for the most part) au-naturale with lots of moguls. There was even an area on the south slope for practicing the developing sport of Aerial skiing. It was fun watching athletes floating & flipping in the air.


Like Scooter, I also skied there as a youngster. If Scooter (or anyone else) can provide information and/or pictures of Caper Valley when it was in operation; that would be nice.
