At the end of a game, losing teams can pull out their goalie and in exchange put a sixth player on the ice. You only do it when desperate, because the most likely outcome is you just get scored on and lose by more than you were already. But occasionally it works and you score a goal, tying the game and forcing overtime.

Basically means a last-ditch attempt to throw everything you can at an opponent.

Basically, by removing your goalie you can replace him with another player -- a bigger chance of scoring a goal, but a HUGELY bigger chance of having one or more goals scored against you. It's a desperation move, usually only tried if you are trailing with only moments left in the game, and are certainly about to lose the game otherwise.

When a team is losing in an important game, they often pull their goalie out of the net leaving it empty and replace him with an extra player on the ice to give them a better chance at scoring a goal in the remaining seconds. The analogy works because the Fords are taking on big risks since they have nothing to lose. If this Blair thing doesn't stick, both Fords are done politically.

I've been listening to Newstalk1010 which is a right leaning radio station. While there are some Ford defenders, many people have called in saying they voted for Ford in the past but they've had enough. Listening to those defending Ford though... it's hard not to shout at the the radio...
