Rob Ford's Toronto

Heard on the news this morning that Adam Chaleff-Freudenthaler is not giving up after three failed attempts to oust the mayor, and is planning a fourth legal challenge. This poor fellow's practically OCD on this.

Not really. It just shows that 13% of those polled have bought into the myth that David Crombie was the "tiny perfect mayor".

Technically, *all* of those mayoral results involve "buying into a myth"--re Ford, re Miller, re Lastman, re Crombie. It's just that Crombie is so long ago--which means, if you want to apply a chronological etc "balancing formila" to that poll, he'd probably win handily...

Lol ...chances are he will be killed first, by his dissatisfied followers that might think he is the second coming of christ:D

In case any of you forgotten, I *have* offered that kind of speculation in the past...based on how everything about his mayoralty is just so unseemly and abject, don't be surprised about *anything*. Toronto becoming a Belfast-ian divided hellhole; or, somebody driving a fertilizer truck into Nathan Phillps Square etc.

Though thus far, the "known" threat-on-his-life sorts of things have been by "obvious nutbars" (i.e. not necessarily ideologically motivated) or sister's-boyfriend types...

You should add Rob Ford to the list of people who have threatened Rob's Ford's life: quantity/quality of food ingested, quantity of alcohol ingested, driving under the influence...I would be surprised if that's the extent of it, too.

But back to your point, yes he's a scumbag hypocrite, and scumbag hypocrites probably need to watch their backs more than the average person when things go bad. I, personally, would prefer a return to the rule of law (at the very least) and an enhanced use of rationality among the electorate (when I'm being optimistic).

Unless he has a winning hand to play, I tend to agree with you on this. At this point, besides risking his license to practice law, he is simply drawing up support for Ford with these antics. Not to mention making himself look more pathetic than those who are obsessed with trying to disprove Obama's birth certificate.

Front page of the Sun today tries to make it appear that it is a good thing that Ford won't be held accountable for hours election spending! I think of we ever require passing intelligent tests to vote, the first question should ask if you take the Toronto Sun seriously for political information. Answering yes means an automatic fail.

Fords base is solid, he really doesn’t have to do much to win the next election, he's done enough over this term that I don’t see a single candidate strong enough to beat him, Olivia Chow would be torn to shreds if she runs....no way does she get the support of the burbs

It's hard to find many major election promises that Rob Ford has kept.

Subways? Fail.

Getting rid of streetcars? Fail

Increase police force? Fail

Decrease number of councillors? Fail

Get rid of land transfer tax? Fail

Cancel Transit City? Fail

Increase Social Services? Big fail - he even proposed cuts.

No service cuts? Fail

Bike plan? Fail

Cut $2 billion in gravy train spending? Fail

At the same time, he's been caught lying, influence peddling, and misappropriating city resources.

The man's a train-wreck. I can't imagine many in that would turn a blind eye to his clear failings, given a half-decent conservative candidate.

And I can't imagine that the conservatives are going to lie down and not challenge him during the election.

Do you know something that rest of us don't? Because Olivia Chow has consistently polled higher than Ford in recent surveys.

Sort of like this: if you're apt to bullying, don't be surprised if the apparently meek milquetoast you're bullying strikes back in a manner so abject that you couldn't have foreseen it. Like, you may stop strategically short of maiming and killing the milquetoast--but if the milquetoast cracks, *he* won't stop short at *you*. (Never mind that the milquetoast might be carted off to an institute for the criminally insane for his actions--the fact is, you'll be maimed, or dead, and you didn't consider that consequence.)

Conversely, of course, it's the bully that might take that step too far (perhaps as an understandable self-defence reflex) with said boldly-retaliating milquetoast. Then, it'll be the milquetoast that's dead or maimed, and the bully that's incarcerated.

The lesson: bullying doesn't pay. In practice, it's a dangerous game of chicken, or Russian Roulette...

Speaking in a rare one-on-one interview, Ford told Sun News Network: “There’s not a more honest politician than I am … People want me to change — what do you want me to change into, a left-winger and become a tax-and-spend socialist? That’ll never happen … I am who I am and I follow the rules.”

“Oh, this is simply the left wing coming after me trying to make hay when there’s nothing there,” Ford said, describing the spending over the legal limit as a “minor glitch” in campaign accounting.

“They have the nerve to come out and say, ‘Well, the city has insurance; why don’t you go and get your money from the taxpayers?’ The last thing I’m going to do is go to the taxpayers and say, ‘Give me the $120,000… that they owe me,’” Ford told Menzies. “If Mr. Magder and Mr. Ruby took me to court and they lost, then they’re going to pay it. I’m not going to have the taxpayers pay it.”

I subscribe to the rule that if you're constantly boasting about or trying to prove something, chances are that thing isn't entirely true.

If a person does not surf the internet, read the newspapers, watch television news, listen to the radio news, and only believes that Ford can do no wrong, then yes maybe. By the way, those are plural information sources, if one only listens to one side of an argument or one news source and then does not do research, that person maybe a Ford follower.

May I summarize?

Anyone who does not agree with my opinion(s) must be either ignorant of the facts or close minded.
