Rob Ford's Toronto

What lemur said - which is also why one should uninvite RoFo from photo-ops, protocol be damned. If they complain, well, hey, what are they going to do, sue for breaking rules?

AoD

I think the next time Ford shows up to inaugurate something he voted against/didn't bother to vote on, someone should ask him why he's there at all. The media have not been doing their job in this regard.

I'm really hoping Blair is accepting the apology and closing the matter because something is about to drop on the Rob (and/or Doug :p) and he doesn't want the lawsuit to be mixed in "baggage" alongside more serious charges.

Then again, I'm also hoping a unicorn will fly into my office and barf up a million dollars.
(IOW, I'm not holding my breath)

Nice of him to call a press conference so his acquiescence can have the biggest audience possible, and so that Doug Ford can come out looking like the bigger man, because of his $1000 (chicken feed) donation to charity.

Any chance of Blair resigning early and running for Councillor?

Ford is forgetting that replacing 15 councillors is very, very, very unlikely even if he were enjoying stratospheric levels of popularity, which he isn't. Ward races are essentially local and all about name recognition, and if people remember your name in the voting booth, and don't really remember anything bad about you, you're in. If you're unpopular, but your opposition is hopelessly split, you're in. If all you did last term was essentially do nothing, you've got a good shot at re-election. If you're not hiring a bunny suit with taxpayer money, you're fairly safe. It is extremely hard to unseat a do-nothing councillor, and even harder to shift one halfway competent but with flaws. Not many people are *that* interested in non-Ford municipal politics. Changing the system to ranked ballots will help, but the returning councillors always vastly outnumber the new faces after each city election.

But then he's forgotten a lot of stuff. Are you perfect? Any questions? We're moving on.

Thanks for the endorsements, ROFOMOFO, deidretree and Jado!

Forgot one more thing: If things starting going really badly for you, dredge up something council approved a few years back and whine loudly about the cost, even though you weren't even there to vote on it and you could have done something at the time, had you bothered to inform yourself.
yes, yes, yes!

I wish the media for ONCE would headline this debacle appropriately: "Mayor's brother retracts lies, agrees to pay $1000. to settle lawsuit".

Were people expecting anything other what happened? Daniel Dale accepted the written apology and moved on.

I'm surprised Blair's lawyer was OK with it, since it was not actually an apology.

“I have no information or basis to suggest that Chief Bill Blair was personally aware of any provision of such information to the media and I apologize to Chief Blair if my comments suggested or implied in any way he was.”

Apologies do not contain the word "if."

"...I apologize to Chief Blair for declaring that he was" would be an apology.

RoFo's (lawyer's) apology to Daniel Dale was properly explicit:

"There is no basis for saying as I did on December 17 and in the past that Mr. Dale was “lurking” or “leering” near or over my fence or behaving surreptitiously and I should not have said that... Accordingly, I apologize to Mr. Dale for the inaccurate manner in which I described the incident of May 2012.

"Finally there was absolutely no basis for the statement I made about Mr. Dale taking pictures of children, or for any insinuations I made. I should not have said what I did and I wholly retract my statements and apologize to Mr. Dale without reservation for what I said."

Give it a few days, Defamation (Defecation) Doug will be back in front of the media passing along the same opinion again.

Another thing I'd like to see is each time there is a scrum around Tug at least one reporter asks "When do you plan on suing the Globe and Mail for indicating you were a drug dealer". I think this type of question is bound to make him snap and physically assault someone.

I have wondered if that could happen for a while! Both of them are capable of snapping like that.
