Rob Ford's Toronto

I've only now gotten to yesterday's press coverage of RoFo's "attacks" on Councillors over expense claims, and am amused that Mammoliti was cited as the second biggest spender. And it got me to wondering, why is the Mayor's relationship to Mamms so fraught? I understand that Rob thinks he needs this strategy, but even before this the two, who seem to share some natural affinity through temperament behave so...hot and cold (?) to each other. I ask because I've wished Mamms gone from public life for his angry bluster and show-boating long before I was even aware of Ford. Thanks in advance for any information or speculation.

Worst Campaign Manager Ever.

Hahaha

Councillor Doug Ford - the mayor's campaign manager - shrugged off the signs.
"That's fine," he said. "They're going to get dirty, we're going to try to stay as positive as possible.
"If that's the only way they want to try to defeat (the mayor), good luck. People are smarter than that out there. People can see right through this."
WTF?!
A week ago Doug was comparing the campaign to a battle scene from Braveheart. He can't even keep track of his own bullshit.

Edited to make this sound a little less harsh by adding that I'd much prefer to see him either lose the election, go to jail, or resign and get help.

The last two are unlikely to happen. He strikes me as the type who goes down with the ship.

The first two, I'm not sure either will happen this year.

I do think they need to assess all the factors, it's their job. There's no rush to expand, the planes aren't even ready.

But that's the point, Euler. It's not the political appointees at TPA, even, pushing this agenda. It's Porter. IMHO, expansion now means he can control it, and get the lion's share of slots. If the Feds decide to take Pickering off the table and expand City Centre with a cohesive argument about an expanded airport within proper guidelines, fine. But this is about Porter continuing to control a public asset while having $100s of millions spent on their de facto private airport. Expand, open up the slots subject to noise restrictions, get Porter down to 1/3rd or less of much higher volume, I'm in. The current silliness is about Ford helping another corporate crony.

And what a great year it's been...

Right about now this time last year, I got a call from a man who claimed to have a video of Rob Ford smoking crack. How was that a year ago?

More speculation on the Ford sex video

So, Mrs. RRR was at a party on the weekend with a high level city official. Apparently, the Rob Ford video is of a hand job. Now, I'm assuming that's the rumour around city hall rather than definitive, but it got me thinking.

While that would be shocking to his loyal followers, anyone with knowledge of his partying with escorts would not be shocked. Yet, MetroMan and others have used the term 'heinous'. What makes this beyond the pale?

To some a 'circle jerk', or Rob giving a hand job might be much worse, given his overt homophobia, but to me it sounds more like something forced. Either the person giving the handjob is way, way underage, or there is some forcible coercion, or both. Gah.

I'm now kind of sorry for sharing, but if this is even remotely true, I want to see him locked up for a very long time, and all of his enablers shamed.

Not to mention there's the issue of forcing the city to hold all of the potential jobs hostage. Deluce placed a purchase order for the jets before consulting with either city council or the public, likely out of fear of the sudden was of access to Pearson via the UPX. Porter could take their jets to Pearson and compete fairly, but frankly they don't want that. They want to squander the gift of BBA that was given to them in the name of unfair advantage and not having to compete on the same level.

Regardless of whether it's right environmentally or socially or even traffic-wise to allow BBA expansion; do we want to set the precedent that it's okay for a company to make such broad plans with a big impact on the public and government before consulting the public or the government? Should we then allow developers to sell units in an 80-storey condo anywhere in the city regardless of zoning, lack of permit, environmental impact or public consultation? And then, when confronted, have them try and guilt the city into compliance simply because some might lose their future homes?

If that rumour is true, it's going to be interesting for all the Ford Nation types who keep bringing up Jack Layton and the massage parlour bust. 'Yeah, but this is different because blah blah honk wheeze subways!'.

I don't believe Jack was charged.

"On the very day the Toronto Sun broke the story, Jack Layton's already soaring personal leadership scores jumped some more. The rise in support suggests "that the story in fact helped" Mr. Layton, according to pollster Nik Nanos, who said the numbers showed people saw the piece as a deliberate political smear."
