Rob Ford - Why the Supervillian?

Every forest needs a good fire once in a while.

You're right. Somebody ought to pour gasoline on Rob Ford and set him on fire.

Remember the recently deceased "Kill Helmut Kohl" guy? Maybe we should take a cue and start a "Kill Rob Ford" campaign. I mean, if Urbandreamer welcomes his candidacy as a bit of fun, let's ramp up the fun a little. Hack the fat fcuk into smithereens, and toss his remains into the audience. Maximum gross, maximum destruction...

What is a socialist champagne dictatorship? I don't know how long you've been in Spain, but we've been voting in our politicians a lot longer than you have!

It's basically the same as a caviar capitalist, just with a conscience. lol How many of these silly terms have the writers of the Toronto Sun created?

A what?? Where do you get this stuff.

Ah, that explains it. I don't read it ... it seems like a bizarre publication ... I've never really known a newspaper to be into grade-1 style name-calling before ...

Though no one would ever call the Toronto Sun a real newspaper!

Consumers Station will be the place to be in 2015.

No, because that assumes that each year maintains the status quo of the previous. I'm sure whatever savings from oil prices would be put into something else (as they should be).
I have no doubt they would be/will be/already have been. I'm just not convinced they should.

WKLis and I were just pointing out how looking at inflation is a dumb way to look at budget increases. Again, taxes aren't bad.
If inflation means nothing (which many would say is a pretty radical statement), then what does?

Any chance he's priced how much funding will be achieved from selling the 'air rights' to all that valuable development land over those highly sought-after intersections? Land the city or TTC don't currently own? (Which would make one wonder why the current owners wouldn't see to the TTC at the inflated land prices given there will be a convenient subway station right underneath.)

Ok, those are rhetorical questions.

Value, the quantity and quality of services, the quality of life the city provides, etc. It's not a zero sum game. You might not get everything back, but we live in a socialist society, so you have to look at it from the perspective of how that money impacts everyone. Unfortunately, you can't measure that type of stuff, so it's easy for people to ignore and then scream out about things they can easily grasp. Inflation rates have their place, but for a lot of areas of society the inflation rate is meaningless. This is one of them.

NO funding, but it's definately the MOST sensible subway to draw out.

I think Torontonians would take that layout anyday over streetcar city.

Credible enough to fund? probably not... but if he gets rid of the 'fair wage' act, then for sure...

The streetcars are in the old city of Toronto, and Long Branch, New Toronto, and Mimico. The same group of people who would (according to the surveys) NOT vote for Ford. By the way, it sure looks like he'll put a stop to the Eglington Crosstown, which was just in planning for the past 3 years. And how in world could a subway be built in 5 years without planning and designs?

I guess, according to Ford, all those cities in North America (including Montréal, Winnipeg, and Vancouver) who are considering returning to streetcars or light rail, are wrong and should stay with buses if subways are too expensive for them. He must really disliked and skipped history when he was in school, since he seems to ignore reports from around the world that streetcars are better than buses. He would rather sit in his car, and have everyone get out of his way. No worry, the parking lots needed for his friends' cars will get rid of the those people who would dare vote against him. At least until we all use up all the oil reserves.

Click on this link for an article called Streetcar path lined with hope. Most probably Rob Ford would not even sit down to read it.

Get rid of most streetcars in favour of bus routes & create a subway loop at STC, Ford has totally lost his marbles, or never had them.
