Rob Ford - Why the Supervillian?

Not sure what fiscally conservative has to do with this. Seems everyone is fiscally conservative these days ... except the Tories with their massive deficits.

No one is fiscally conservative when the police get to increase their budget by 5% a year and no one makes a peep:

A true fiscal conservative - instead of RF, who makes decisions out of a personal dislike for people - would try to knock down the costs of a budget item that has risen 31% since 2004. FS, find me a fiscal conservative who will support cutting back the police and I will vote for them. Anyone who professes to be a "fiscal conservative" and who doesn't attack the largest budget item must have their "fiscal conservative" status revoked.

I guess the last administration let that out of hand? or was that some other comittee???
It's tough to ask someone else to cut their budgets when you're constantly increasing your own no? (Mayor's office budget)

annual salary increases of 6.5 %, compounded annually.....

Rossi said he'll cut his salary by 10 percent and freeze it. To set good precedence..for negotiation leverage when going to everyone else....

The municipal election will come and go and the champagne socialists will retain power. The Liberal Party of Ontario will mobilize with feet on the ground and grease money to make sure Dalton's "boy" gets the mayor's job. As for the rest ofthe parasitic dead wood on council, they have the taxpayer funded budgets to guarantee re-election forever and union support. Toronto is a city with terminal cancer. All you can do is sit back and watch.

Hard to believe that a city so big can only produce this crop of fat cats. But when people can get in based on charisma, sexuality, race, money... it doesn't leave a lot of room for ability, dedication or integrity.

I don't know about that.. only the councillors and their myopic/out of touch senses thought that Ford did not have a chance.

The guy had the Finance Minister of CANADA at his launch party. Partisan aside, that's a pretty big gesture.

Ford definately has the soundbyte/populous sentiment.

Rossi is still by far a much more superior candiate than FORD... but... it will put a smile on my face seing the Miller supporters cringe and protest for 4 years! lol..

The Star should be endorsing him... think of all the stuff they will have to write about?!

A 4 year battle royal with Adam Vaugh will make very intertaining political reporting!

Once again, politically motivated fiscal conservative-ship! They got a 2% increase and the entire budget for city councillors is so much smaller than the ONE BILLION we spend on the police. Jeez! I'm not adverse to conservatives - I'm adverse to non-thinking conservatives. If Rossi took a 10% decrease in salary it would mean absolutely nothing to the budget. It's just drama. If he actually wants to make meaningful and positive change, stop with the distracting drama and just come out and say something unpopulist!

And who cares about who caused it - RF and Rossi would have allowed the same increases, cause no one is talking about cutting police services.

Really? I see no net effect on the credibility of his statements by your isolating that one point, because it is beside the fact. Rob Ford and Rossi have as much power in council as Miller did for the last decade, one vote each. Police and other emergency service costs have been spiralling, but nothing addressing it at any level beyond feeding the beast. Do you feel 30% safer than 10 years ago? TTC is the next sick organisation that's been forced into lockstep and each part blaming the others.

That sums your credibility all up.

No, this sums up what you care about: revenge. If RF said he'd cut the police services budget, I'd consider voting for him. If Pantalone said the same, I'd consider voting for him. I care about issues, not about assigning blame - which is all you care about, apparently.

I came to that conclusion last night. Most of what FS says is straight out of the Toronto Sun and more specifically, Sue Ann Levy's column. I wasn't sure if this was some sort of very subtle sarcasm or just full blown ignorance.

I mean, he said he did live in Brampton...I guess living in a suburban area makes him better than us.

I don't read the Sun much, so I had no idea who Sue-Ann Levy was or what her views were but today I was reading an article from spacing, that took me to The Sun site. I clicked on Sue-Ann Levy and started to read some of her articles. I thought I was reading a Fresh Start rant. He says exactly the same bs she does, using her exact terms, like "Champagne Socialists". lol I wondered where he got that term from, now I know. Could Fresh Start actually be Levy? So many of his rants and terms are exactly the same, practically quotes. All this time I thought Fresh Start had an over-active, although weak, imagination, when it turns out, he was just a good plagiarizer. lol Does that guy (girl?) have any original ideas, labels, terms, names?

OK Fresh Start, if you are indeed Sue-ann Levy, fess up now. If not, stop plagiarizing her. Use your own words, not somebody else's.

Have you guys read the comments of her readers? I was kind of surprised to see so many homophobic terms, including "fag" used to insult Smithermen. I expected a few homophobes to be in Fords camp but I just didn't expect it to be so blatant or so many. Why does the Sun allow comments like homo, queer, fag to remain on their site? Would they allow people to use "the N word"? It's a homosexual hate fest on Levy's reader's comments. These are all supporters of Ford. I wonder if Rob Ford is proud of his supporters? He should tell them to give the hate, a rest.

Revenge? lol... nope, but historic perspective and track record is relevant.

If Pantalone says all of a sudden he will cut our city budget back to 2006 levels at the end of his term, will you believe this?

The issue is that the police budget, along with the rest of the city budget, has grown over 50% since 2002. So if Pantalone with his track record of supporting pretty much every motion that has contributed to those increases, all of a sudden says 'I'm going to do the opposite of what I've done the past 8 years'. Is he credible?

Now Rob Ford has had over 10 years to turn the tide, but he has unable to do anything. Perhaps a little more clout and Media coverage in the spotlight will convince the councillors to be a bit more 'co-operative'?

I have to admit that smear campaigns and the blame game just turn me off.

I want to hear about the issues, what doesn't work and a plan to do something that makes sense and tries to correct previous mismanagement. I don't want to hear candidates engage in what amounts to a school yard name calling contest. Reminds me of work.

We have members in our union that go around smearing and creating gossipt about other rival candidates when elections are upon us and it's all about making the other person look bad. And it annoys me to no end.

Not just that. I'd argue that they could use a wage freeze or at least some lower pay raises. Streetbeat cops today, get paid more than most of our troops in Afghanistan (even with their danger pay and combat zone tax exemptions). Is Toronto really more dangerous than Kandahar? Some balance is called for here.

We may disagree on a lot of transit issues, but I am with you on freezing the wages of police officers. This city has far too many officers.

Rob Ford has made it to the world stage... negatively.

Click on this link for the short article from copenhagenize.com, especially the comments from around the world. If he wins, I'll just say I'm from Mississauga, not Toronto.

The video from the article is here:

He sure has the physique to know what he's talking about.
