Sometimes I wish I could share people's enthusiasm for team sports.... Any team sports...

I mean the Serbia game had me mildly curious... I had it playing in the background while gardening... Does that count? :p

Football is either a mystical religious experience (including hallucinating offsides, balls across lines, etc) or you're what we call "a tourist". :p

Did he provide any sort of reasoning for this?

I myself, whilst no expert, find it inconceivable that it should be the case that every business in the area would be at high risk of going out of business.

He didn't provide a reasoning BUT we've seen real risk for businesses on both St. Clair and King; landlords nearly immediately began charging more for their premium locations and many businesses on the edge couldn't make it.

Of course, for St. Clair that meant replacing dollar stores and cheque cashing shops (pretty common in 2005) with restaurants and boutique retail.

Finch will likely be the same, LRT will lead to gentrification which will put some businesses under; and the neighbourhood will be better for it.

Aaaah, true, that makes sense. I never really thought of it that way. I sort of thought of business in general declining in that area as opposed to individual businesses dying off.

OK, well, what you have described is capitalism and that's what we have going so I don't see a problem.

Man, I'm having to look for an apartment again and if those businesses think they have a problem.....housing in this town's a real joke in terms of pricing.

Easy, because all this requires is an apology - to someone who is no longer with the TTC at that; vs. someone using a) their authority as a councillor to provide assistance to a friend when they are not supposed to and b) plausibly attempting to undermine another councillor through cloak and dagger or c) someone getting dinged for violating fundraising rules. Nice attempt at whataboutism though - but since you want to play this game, perhaps I need to jog your mind of the current premier's history?

The mayor said the salary paid to the city's top public health official was "an embarrassment" and suggested Dr. McKeown overstepped his mandate with a $60,000 report advocating lower speed limits to protect cyclists and pedestrians.

"Why does he still have a job?" Doug Ford twice asked, referring to Dr. McKeown as "this guy."

"You know I feel sometimes you live in a socialist state that they force you to say something even though you don't believe in what you're saying," the councillor replied.

"So you're not apologizing?" Ms. Bynon asked.

"No, if I've offended the medical officer of health, Doug Ford apologizes to him. In saying that, who's going to apologize to the taxpayers when they go out and spend $60,000 on a transportation study?"
