QEW - Mississauga/Credit River Project

The project has been mostly done waiting on the archeological dig for the better part of a year now. The bridge can't finish until they finish the dig so is sitting in it's current stage.

We need to be watching that archeological hole - when it gets backfilled, the rest of the project should wrap up and fall into place fairly quickly.

I admit I'm getting frustrated at how long it's taking. We are talking about 12+ months at this point - @Tim MacDonald 's photos from last January clearly show the area identified and protected for the dig.. Get on with it!

I think we are at the point where if they couldn't get what they needed after a year, it's time to close the book on it and finish the project. This is beyond ridiculous. Every time I have driven that stretch or photographed it, I've never seen anyone around it.

I bet the longer the Credit River dig drags on, the more the professor(s), archeologists, and their assistants get paid.

Note to self - make the kids dig in neighbouring yards only.

Though the only thing in the former ravine behind my house that we dig up is 1910s ash and bottles. But who know what's deeper down.

I'm puzzled though - wouldn't the archaeological work be done years ago? Was there a discovery during construction? Sorry, I've not been following very closely.

I was hoping to have a tunnel there - but I guess it would still be the same effect of not being opened.

I went through some of my photos and this dig appears to have started before July 2024 and then extended southward..

Just wanted to confirm, is the archeological dig entirely confined to the area around the south of the new pedestrian bridge?

It is pretty disheartening driving by week after week at various times of day and not seeing a single soul on site. I understand the need for the dig but it would be a lot easier of a pill to swallow if there was some actual progress after months and months of the bridge being complete

Archeological work probably hampered by weather. And I don't know, the teaching and research schedule of the academics involved.

Some serious consideration for weighing the pros and cons of costing hundreds of thousands, if not millions of human-hours in traffic. Millions of dollars in productivity losses. Maybe next time they dig out large soil chunks en masse (at the risk of damaging or destroying some artifacts). This would probably be a net positive economically.

The political opposition to any cultural erasure would be vocal, even if I suspect a large part of the population don't actually care.
