President Donald Trump's United States of America

As far as future governance of Venezuela goes, in the eyes of the Trump admin it's probably "who cares", a la Puerto Rico with a legacy dash of Fred Trump-style slumlording for good measure...

World acclaimed investigative journalist Max Blumenthal (the best investigative journalist in the world IMO) confirmed my suspicions in this interview that the kidnapping of Maduro was carefully orchestrated. Blumenthal is an expert on Venezuela as well as the middle east and other conflict zones. Fluent in Spanish he has interviewed Maduro and acting president Delcy Rodríguez in the recent past. Max notes that it had been recently announced that Russia supplied Venezuela with "100's of MANPADS" and yet not one American helicopter was shot down! As Max notes just one downed US helicopter would have been a disaster for Trump. Remember Black Hawk Down!

The arrogant Brit couldn't resist taking a jab at Canada saying that Canada means nothing to America. I'm sure in Trump's mind that Canada is nothing but as the biggest buyer of American made goods and services, the biggest supplier of cheap oil and finally the most important security partner for the US (name a more important country) it is not true to say Canada means nothing to the United States.

Any Canadian who has lived in the US will agree with him. Americans almost never think about Canada. To some extent that's a good thing. It's not like their obsession over their other neighbour is positive. Meanwhile, there's a good chunk of Canadians who follow American politics more than Canadian politics are completely enmeshed in American culture. So I don't think the assessment is wrong. Even if it stings to hear it said out loud. Heck, you're probably one of these people.

🤦‍♂️

Just for everyone's sake, I will give some context to this "best investigative journalist" according to our beloved @EBT

- Blumenthal is known for his positive, often apologetic coverage of the Chinese, Russian, Venezuelan, and Ba'athist Syrian governments, including the denial of chemical attacks by the Syrian government and of China's human rights abuses against Uyghurs.
- Blumenthal has contributed to multiple broadcasts on RT (formerly known as Russia Today).
- In an interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News in November 2017, Blumenthal defended RT against the charge that it's Kremlin propaganda.
- Blumenthal has contributed on multiple occasions to Russia's state owned Sputnik radio, Iran's state owned Press TV, and China's state-run CGTN.
- In December 2015, during a visit to Moscow he was presumed by multiple sources to have been paid by the Kremlin. Blumenthal founded The Grayzone website within a month after his visit to Moscow. He has the habit of demonizing all left-wing critics of Putin and the likes of Assad by describing them as 'agents of imperialism'. The Grayzone website was heavily used as a PR propaganda outlet for Russia's Wagner PMC group throughout its involvement in the Syrian conflict.

And that's just at the very tippy top of Blumenthal's resume of being "the best investigative journalist".

I am surprised to see some posts being deleted from UT just because they are supposedly giving publicity to the opinions that don't deserve the attention according to UT mods. Yet there is persistent tolerance to people spreading outright propaganda from Kremlin the rest of CRINK.

Can't say Canada's statement is all that surprising since we've participated in something similar ourselves - Haiti

Second point, the sooner Canadians divorces the idea that we are somewhat special - the sooner we can make decisions in our national interest. Trump made it clear - we aren't special and we will be dealt with like any other nations in this hemisphere

Trump didn’t endorse Venezuela’s Machado ‘because she accepted Nobel Peace Prize’

From https://www.thelondoneconomic.com/politics/trump-didnt-endorse-venezuelas-machado-because-she-accepted-nobel-peace-prize-401944/

Donald Trump chose not to back Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado to lead the country because she accepted the Nobel Peace Prize, according to reports.

On Monday, Delcy Rodríguez is to be sworn in as Venezuela’s new leader after American forces captured president Nicolás Maduro in a military operation over the weekend.

Rodriguez was Maduro’s vice-president, and was officially designated as interim president following his capture.

But many had wondered if Machado would be endorsed by the Trump administration to become Venezuela’s new leader, given she was the government’s opposition and the main critic of Maduro’s government.

It seems the reason Trump decided not to though was because she didn’t give up the Nobel Peace Prize for him though.

Sources close to the White House said Machado’s decision to accept the award instead of demanding that it be given to Trump was the “ultimate sin.”

They told the Washington Post: “If she had turned it down and said, ‘I can’t accept it because it’s Donald Trump’s,’ she’d be the president of Venezuela today.”

There's going to be a swath of Canadians who are generally supportive of a potential US takeover here, I imagine quite a few blue ridings would vote for it if given the opportunity, particularly the ones who don't seem to realize that the US' capture of Venezuela's oil industry effectively kills their provincial industry.

There's also going to be a big wakeup call for most Canadians who don't understand that we're mostly an appendage of the US and only very rarely diverge on international policy. You mentioned Haiti but we still support Israel and only really balked with the US on Iraq. If the EU fails to support us, which I believe they failed to when the 51st state discussion was ongoing, we'll need to find international support elsewhere. I doubt we do much to stand up for Cuba or Greenland, but i'm open to being surprised.

If they are serious about democracy (which they are not) they should have new elections anyways. Not install some puppet.
They can also install Gonzalez (who won the 2024 election) into governance as he was supposed to.

Canada has not recognized Maduro as the legitimate ruler of Venezuela since 2018 elections. In truth, we should not have recognized the stolen 2013 election either.

Apparently they are lining up Colombia next too now.
And Cuba.

If the new National Security Strategy is anything to go by, it's going to be Cuba before Greenland and definitely before Colombia and Mexico. Venezuela was always going to be number one priority. US is imposing an iron-clad sphere of influence over the Western hemisphere. And it's doing so in preparation for the war with China circa 2027-2028. You can't comfortably wage a war with China while there are China-friendly states within a striking distance of the US mainland. If China ever based intermediate range ballistic missiles in Venezuela - that's bad news for oil production and refineries in Texas. Cruise missiles in Venezuela - you effectively can shut down shipping in the Gulf of Mexico and across Panama Canal.

And speaking of Panama Canal - this is why US is actively trying to take over control of the Panama ports from Chinese ownership, with BlackRock reportedly buying out the two ports on either side of the canal for $23B.

So yes, Cuba is next. They are already hosting a number of Chinese Intelligence Reconnaissance Surveillance (ISR) sites on Cuba. That's a stone throw from Florida. That's a no-no. They will need to be gone before the war with China kicks off, one way or the other.
