President Donald Trump's United States of America

...but that doesn't matter here, as even if this resolves all these..and even if this was all done for the noble'ist of reasons with the smoothest of execution, it's still was illegal and likely considered a war crime by many standards. The wrong that does not make a right. As it s important for a free, just and democratic world that we don't invade our neighbours and replace sovereign leaders because we don't like them. Or because they have more oil reserves and riches than us. Or whatever grievances we may have with them, legitimate, perceived and/or imagined.
I wonder how many people were happy that María Corina Machado won the Nobel Peace Prize (instead of Trump) due to her fighting for democracy since Maduro stole the election - but also argue that Maduro was the elected President that Trump took out illegally. I don't believe any Western country accepted the results of the election, so Maduro was not the rightful leader.

Popular? ...I mean, has he been given a miracle boost in the polls over this?

I'm calling it now. He gets a temporary poll-bump from this. As a purely militarily thing, this went off about as flawless as one could dream of. That makes him look more competent than he usually is. Of course, if Venezuela descends into chaos, he won't look great. More than likely Americans won't care about Venezuela by election time because they have their personal problems.

That's for Venezuela to decide/work out, not the United States.

I am beginning to hear there where civilian casualties though, so not entirely flawless. But even if not, using violence to resolve this dispute as opposed to peaceful means taints this effort either way. And there's the as for mentioned legality of it.

I honestly don't think the average American cares about anything more than dead Americans.

It's interesting to me how you literally saw these systems fail to even disable a single American aircraft and then advocate that Canada should buy those. Because "not American". It's also interesting how you never land on non-American Western systems that work (that the CAF has actually purchased).

Setting aside the geopolitics here. For everybody else, what you're seeing is a competent military using stealth aircraft in a combined arms manoeuvre to bring everybody home. Not one American life lost in a country that had literally handed out a million AKs. This is actually what Putin thought his boys would pull of in Kyiv in 2022

Increasingly it is beginning to look like this was a completely choreographed mission, i.e. Maduro was sold out by his own administration probably his own VP. Chinook and Black Hawk helicopters are not stealth aircraft and yet they faced zero opposition. Even the Somalians were able to bring down a Black Hawk using an RPG. I'm sure the Venezuelan military have RPGs. They have SU-30 fighter jets! I suspect this was coordinated to give Trump a big "win" similar to the raid on Bin Laden's compound in Pakistan was done to boost Obama before the midterms. It is telling that María Corina Machado was passed over by Trump in favor of the current VP Delcy Rodríguez who Trump characterized as "willing to do whatever we want".

This is the wife of Trump's chief advisor Stephen Miller

This is the predator mentally that permeates these people, and which Trump is infected with. If you have a weak neighbor just help yourself to their land because hey, if they don't steal your land someone else will.

Here is the same lovely Ms. Miller on the same day saying the United States needs nothing from Canada - free trade is over in response to a tweet from the CEO of Rumble (a Canadian sellout):

It is often said that Trump makes decisions based on the last person he spoke with. These are the people who are in his face almost every day of the week.

Who are these fictional people you are talking about?

Completely choreographed mission apparently included pictures and footage of Venezuelan air defence and armour fried to a crisp.

Conspiracy theorists like you are complete nutters. We went from "The Venezuelans can defend themselves with these Russian wunderwaffen" to "they are all co-operating and acting" in like 3 posts. All to pretend those Russian systems aren't crap. Do your bosses ever let you admit anything bad about Russia?

If you say so...but this still removes any notion of this being flawless...

...outside of the fact that this was flawed from the beginning. And demonstratively so. So the perception of the American people really doesn't change that.

I was referring to their domestic politics. And in their domestic politics, they really don't care about perception outside the US or impacts on non-Americans. Even if you turn on MSNBC, they really aren't talking about the impact on Venezuela or global considerations. It's about whether what Trump did is illegal under US law and/or impacts on the US.

It's really hard for anybody who hasn't lived in the US to understand how little Americans care about the rest of the world. Ironic for a superpower.

I get that. But you are playing to populist notions and the appeal to emotions in the US and beyond, as opposed to abiding by the rule of law and doing the right thing here. It is simple (and complicated) as that.

MLI. I know. But I think this is a necessary and valid point about how we all think about Trump:

Is this a recent interview? If so, I'm surprised to see Ferguson heaping mound after mound of praise on Donald Trump as if Trump is the greatest president to ever live. Ferguson is married to a very famous Somalian Ayaan Hirsi Ali. For months now Trump has been scapegoating Somalians using the most disgusting language that would not be tolerated if directed at any other people. Trump has equated Somalians with garbage and has said many times "I don't want them in my country". None of this seems to matter to Ferguson. I wonder how his wife feels when she hears her husband's hero describe her in and her people in terms that portray Somalians as less than human.

The arrogant Brit couldn't resist taking a jab at Canada saying that Canada means nothing to America. I'm sure in Trump's mind that Canada is nothing but as the biggest buyer of American made goods and services, the biggest supplier of cheap oil and finally the most important security partner for the US (name a more important country) it is not true to say Canada means nothing to the United States. Ferguson is one of the most overrated "intellectuals". I don't know why anyone would pay to listen to him or care what he has to say.
